I’m afraid. Very afraid.

The SBGN001 has been made available to me. It’s close to the perfect watch for what I need. It tells time in 2 zones, date, and is just plain accurate. I get tired of hearing “tool watch” thrown around as a catch phrase, but that really is what a watch is to me (granted, some tools are nicer than others). The thing is, I’m afraid it’s going to put all of my other watches out of rotation. I could see grabbing this watch 9 times out of 10 when I wake up in the morning. So.....what do I do with most of my other watches? I don’t want or need to sell them, but it seems ludicrous to have them sitting around. Sounds funny that my grail is a $3500 quartz Seiko.

No, I quite understand

Do it. $3,500 is a lot of money, but it's so much watch for that coin. GS is on a roll.

For me I'm done pretty much with Rolex. I like my 777 better than my Sub. But I just can't go with a quartz at that price.

I’ve been on board with GS for a while, I just haven’t found an everyday watch from them until now. Up until now, my 116710LN has been my go to (I need the GMT feature). The 001 is just a better fit for me. Has anyone else found a piece that puts the rest out of business? Or does newness wear off and you go back to your old ways?

I got to check this model out in the Seiko boutique NYC, it is a stunner. But it is fancy, not anything I would treat like a tool.

Good luck with it.

Right. Just because it’ll be my everyday watch doesn’t mean I’m trying to abuse it. I work hard for my stuff.

Good deal. I try not to abuse my watches though, it just happens, okay my bad a few times I did "try"

I understand but a quartz watch or GS wouldn't replace my
Rolex... My

Add, yes and wear in rotation but not replace.

You have to do what's right for you though.

The 9F quartz is an awesome movement, and I appreciate my SBGT235 more and more the longer I own it. Anyone with doubts, and an open mind, should read Jack Forster's Sexy Robot article on Hodinkee.

Here's a scan of a leaflet I picked up last time I was in Japan.

There is only one way to find out ! You should get this watch- it’s amazing, and you don’t need to rush a decision about your other watches.

I’ve read up on the GS quartz movement- it isn’t your ordinary everyday quartz movement; it’s on a whole other level of amazing!

I’ve got no truck with quartz watches. I’m not torn between, “Do I get a quartz watch or not get a quartz watch.” Anyone who poo poos quartz watches (especially GS ones), may not know as much about watches as they think. My dilemma is rather to get a watch that may relegate my others to just collectible status. I guess there really are first world problems Thanks for everyone’s input so far.

Nice looking GS, that one caught my eye last year too when it was released being it resembles the discontinued SBGM029 which has been on my radar (blue dial mechanical version of 001).

I would get the GS and add it to the collection. Wear what you want and if the GS is everything that you believe it to be then in about a year consider moving some other watches along. It is nice to have choices in a collection.
