New BLNR or Sub Date?

Hey all,

Out of curiosity, which one would y’all chose between the two: 126710 BLNR or 116610 Submariner Date. I currently own the new BLNR, but not sure if I’d justify having both. It’s an awesome watch, but I have the opportunity to get a new Sub Date + Cash. I’ve recently been feeling that the Sub may be more versatile. The jubilee fits well, but is pretty “blingy”.

Thanks again!

Your blnr all day long.
If you swapped your blnr for a sub, you’d kick yourself every time you read about or spotted a blnr.

Neither. The BLNR on the Oyster. Can't stand the jubilee bracelet.

Get what you need. I use the GMT function on a daily basis and I travel a lot. The Sub makes no sense for me, but it's still a cool watch.

I felt the same about the jubilee then I tried one on and was blown away.

Value aside Sub all day long....it would be interesting to see this pole if the sub was ‘worth’ more.
The oyster is a better bracelet in my opinion..... ive got both watches and a blnr on oyster so just speaking from my experience

It’s very interesting that you mention this. The fact that I would get a BNIB Sub Date + cash is enticing. I got my BLNR for retail. So if you consider MSRP, it’s like getting a sub for nearly 50% off...

But value aside, I had a Sub ND and loved the glide lock. Just really wanted a date, and now I have that opportunity.

I asked myself if I would be okay with the font of the GMT Bezel 10-20 years from now. I wasn’t too sure - it’s quite modern looking. But the Sub Bezel has barely changed. You could place the modern Sub in a movie set before its time, and only those with keen eyes would be able to differentiate modern from classic. Therefore, it’s classic.

But the BLNR has a new movement with a relatively light and comfortable bracelet. And the PCL does worry me a bit! Jubilee bracelet is really beautiful, but I still picture this more on a Datejust and Day Date.

First world problems!

Sub over this bargirl, no-brainer, indeed not even a contest. (Batmen would be an other story)

I generally love the jubilee bracelet, but not this configuration (Badgirl).

I would keep the BLNR but from what you’ve said, you should get the Sub and cash.
Put the cash aside for a future DJ41 on jubilee

Absolutely mate!!

I actually completely agreed when I saw photos of the batgirl. I much preferred my oyster BLNR (or so I thought)

However I got a chance to try one on and was absolutely blown away by it. I did a complete 180 and sold my nearly 5 year old BLNR on Oyster for the jubilee model and love it.

It’s just interesting how your opinions can switch quickly upon trying a piece on.

So true, that was also my experience with the AK-116900.
Enjoy your weekend

My goodness the poll is quite even. I had seen a previous poll on the old BLNR, and the Sub had seemed to win that one by a moderate margin.

There's obviously arguments to both sides, so I'm wearing my BLNR hard and really trying to look at this objectively.

Classic Sub for me, the BLNR on a jube is just half the watch of it's Dad.

Don't trade brother, you will regret it. EVERYONE always does. A year from now you will be posting 'had a blnr, but didn't feel it was a versatile as a sub, so I sold it, silly huh?'.

Why is a Sub more versatile? Are you diving to 300m?

Get both! They are definitely different enough. Especially if you have the jubilee blnr.

Strong point my friend. I just wasn't sure how I felt about the jubilee's look. I think I need to break in the watch a bit more. I have time to make the decision.

The new movement is a HUGE upgrade. That cant be overstated. Ceramic bearings is what moves the Rolex movement up to industry standards. The longer power reserve is also a big plus. Buying a Sub now at full price is openly buying a outdated movement. The new Sub with a 32 series movement is coming. At this point in time only a 12 series watch is worth pursuing. With mass produced watches, newer movement always trumps last decades movement.

The new BLNR 2.0 is a hugh upgrade from the BLNR. There has been a lot of sour grapes with current BLNR push back against the new BLNR jubilee. We saw this initially with the DSSD upgrade. If you are a Rolex history fan, then the jubilee IS the GMT look.
