Awesome history. As others have said. Service it properly and source some more correct replacement parts. Then wear it. Not many watches have the fabulous history yours does.

It's sad you are selling your family heirloom on Ebay.

That's so sad. Also won't get a fair market price with a dude with 33 feedback selling that watch. Someones going to get a bargain. Also sneaky not to disclose the redial.

In this current climate I am not sure who is even buying something like that. No happy to see this on ebay so quickly.

I want to thank everyone for the informative input. I posted here to find out exactly what was good and bad about the watch from true enthusiasts. I am a vintage car enthusiast. I am no stranger to harsh commentary on levels of perfection. Basically, I knew what I was getting into and count me as appreciative not offended. I emailed Ridley to see what my options are. As a side note-I took this watch to a local jewelry store 13 years ago. I bought a modern Rolex from them 2 years earlier. Their “watch expert” told me that it was not worth putting any effort into it. I rediscovered it after my father in law passed recently and luckily decided to give it a second chance. I will post after pics when it is done. Thanks

Ha, for all we know the uncle and father-in-law in question are toothdok's most hated relatives and he's delighted to get this thing off his hands in exchange for a pile of money. In its current form it's an unwearable piece of junk, after all, and will require, what, at least USD5K to get it even vaguely respectable again? If I were him I might do what he's doing.
Some enthusiast might bite and it's not like listing on eBay costs anything. We're not seeing the piece of the century thrown into a blast furnace here, and maybe the new owner will come here for advice so we'll see the end result! |

Wow, just wow. He is asking $10k for this junk when (1) dial is destroyed (2) hands are unoriginal and (3) bezel is missing. Only original bezel (if you are lucky to find one) will cost $10-15k. This watch has only a sentimental value.

I'd put money on the second hand being original.

Thanks again for your opinions. I initially did not think of selling the watch but after posting here for info people were making me offers privately and telling me how expensive it will be to correct. So I put it on EBay to give it a shot before sending it to Ridley (as suggested here) and putting money into it. Not about making money. (5 - 10 k is well short of a “pile”) I just don’t want to waste money on something that others may think is “junk”. Not trying to trick anyone.

I forgot to mention that I did ask members opinions about possibly placing it on EBay in my second post but it was removed.

Rolex 6204
I've had a Rolex 6204 for many years. It has a poorly refinished dial too. I looked into having it serviced thru the Rolex Heritage Service a few years back. It was prohibitively expensive ($15K +) and currently unavailable with current world affairs. I don't know Mr. Ridley personally, but have heard good things. Good luck and enjoy your 6204.
