GMT ? Master vs Master II
I'm just starting to look at these, and saw a 78" TT with a black dial that said master II and have seen pepsi 79's that are Master on the dial. When did the Master II start and what are the big differences, and did this change take place for all the colors at the same time ?
Thanks Chris |

The first GMT Master II wasn't released until about 1983 (16760), and there was cross-over between the GMT Master II 16710 and the GMT Master 16700 until about 1999.
Here's a breakdown, including the differences: http://www.gmtmasterhistory.com/gmt-...ref_16760.html (Edit: To correct typo in 16710) |

Thanks, That's good information, I have been looking at 5 million series 1675 which puts you in the mid-70s and some of those are showing Master two dials so should I assume those have probably been replaced during a service thank you

Swish had a typo which makes his comment a little confusing. The GMT 16750 was a GMT MASTER not a GMT II. The first GMT II was the 16760 as Swish mentioned and it arrived during 1983. None of the GMT 16750s were GMT IIs.
Additionally, there were no GMT IIs made during 1978. If you go to the GMTforum.com, there is a thread there comparing the various GMT and GMT II models which would be quite helpful if you are fairly new to the various Rolex GMT models. Here is the link: https://www.gmtforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=265

Thank you all for the education, and I was mistaken, it was a 88" that was the Master II and the 78" the Master. I'm most interested in the 1675 ref and there is so much to consider. I like the look of these and they are more in my price range, this one was recently sold by a member. IMO it would great on a strap.
Thanks Chris |

Very nice. I prefer the textured strap look, although both are great options.
