Yachtmaster 126622 (40)

Hi all
I’m new to the forum and looking to purchase my first Rolex this weekend. The one I am considering the the Yachtmaster 126622, new for £9550. It’s the grey face with the blue hand. I was originally after a submariner but can’t get one anywhere!!
Do you think this is a good watch to buy and is there anything similar that I should be considering also?

Very cool watch, I'd personally opt for the blue dial however that one is likely tougher to find.

I love the piece. I'm wearing it now. But think hard if you'll be happy with it, if you really want a sub.

YM is a great watch! I'm thinking of going that route as well. The rhodium (grey) dial looks gorgeous in person, in my opinion. And the watch is a bit slimmer than the Submariner and I'm told some find it more comfortable. Plus even though it has a platinum bezel it's a more under-the-radar type of watch that doesn't scream "look at me, I'm expensive" which I find a plus. It does have the easylink adjustment on the bracelet so you can change the size by 5mm whenever you want. But doesn't have the larger adjustment capability that the Sub bracelets do, so that's a minus.

Absolutely! It is an amazing watch that remains under the radar. It is also a much more comfortable, upscale case design (more elegant) than the sub.

However, I'd have to ask how much value you place on newer 70hr power reserve. The 116622 is nearly identical and goes for a nice discount to retail. I'd opt for that one but it's a completely personal decision.

Not a good watch, an outstanding piece. Perhaps one of the most beautiful Rolex watches ever made. Also, it's super versatile, comfortable and kind of understated. My favourite model in the Rolex catalogue in that price range. I've owned mine (116622 plat dial) for a solid 5 years now, feels great.

Of course try before you buy and let it speak to you first. Good luck and let us know of your first impressions and decision!

It’s a great watch, it does seem to draw some love it/hate it debate but if you like it that’s what matters! I have had one for 3 months and it is very comfortable to wear and it looks great in person.

Currently wearing the Rhodium. It's like a nicer version of the Submariner.

If you really want the sub, get the sub. For a little more than the YM, you could get a new sub grey.

My AD says subs are starting to become available. But I like the YM better. I'm just not a fan of that maxi case on the sub and the sub is noticeably thicker (due in part to the extra depth rating). The YM case reminds me more of the subs before they went to the maxi case, and I like it better.

Whats the difference between the 116622 and 126622 - is it just the 3235 movement? Is the 116622 still making the rounds of ADs?

I’m wearing my blue face YM and sipping a very nice French wine. I bought the YM on a major birthday on urging from my watch. She said no price limit and I get good access to models. My choice was the YM. It is beautiful, wears easy, and has nice heft. I think the blue face with the red second hand is striking.

I agree. It's a fantastic piece. At a quick glance, it might seem like a similar move as a sub, but with the bezel differences, dial colors and polished center links vs brushed bracelet, they're quite different.

There's no wrong or right, but if you truly want the sub, figure out a way to get it! Don't settle.

Welcome! Try it on and see how it feels. Its a great watch. I prefer the blue dial as well but there is nothing wrong with the rhodium dial. Happy hunting.

Welcome to the 126622/116622 club. the platinum basel some time looks like rose gold under certain lighting. Still my favorite.

Definitely try them on first. Go to a gray dealer in person if you need to try them on since they probably won’t have sub to try on in the display (when everyone reopens). I like the sub and YM both (I have a TT YM). The pictures don’t do justice on any of them really until you try them on. I never liked the Exp II until I put it on the wrist, and I’m glad I did as its now my favorite daily wear.

I switch monthly between the more blingy PCL bracelet and nice blue leather strap. I find it adds even more versatility to this already great watch. As others have said, the elegance of the case and its proportions can’t be beat!

The YM Rhodium dial is a stunning piece, I'm currently looking at one myself.
Having said that, if your heart truly desires a Sub, then don't settle just because the YM is available.
Either put yourself on a list at an AD, or pay a bit more and go grey. For a similar price of the YM you could pick up a BNIB SubC.

Here's one for £9950

The YM is underrated and a great piece. But as others have said, if you really want a sub you are better off getting a sub. Don’t compromise on what you really want.

I've had both, and they are both great. I have a smaller wrist and the 40mm ym just fit better due to the smaller lugs. I now have a 36 dd that fits better than both, but that's just me. Both sub and ym are great watches.

The AD I went to have rhodium and blue dial. I picked the Rhodium dial. Really beautiful piece.

I'm waiting for a call on the same watch, so in my slightly biased opinion I'd say you're making a fantastic choice!
