The most versatile Rolex made.
The GMT is the most versatile Rolex made, IMHO. You can dress it up or down, change to three different bezels and oyster or jubilee bracelet.
What watch made by Rolex is the most versatile made......what say you! |

I'd say the datejust is up there too, especially a smooth bezel, but like the GMT the bezel can be changed, as well as the bracelet... and even the dial if so inclined. A Datejust works in just about every scenario, on the other hand, the DJ doesn't have a GMT hand though. One of each would cover a lot of ground

Datejust
Largest number of dials by far - diamond, stick, rhodium, roman, MOP, tuxedo, arabic, concentric, silver, champagne, white, black, blue Jubilee or oyster bracelet Fluted or smooth bezel Same ability to dress up as a GMT is to dress down Easier to dress down than a GMT is to dress up |

Sort of. But whilst I could change the bezel of my DJ (and would like to). It would be out of ref and considered a Franken. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yes, the five digit by far is the most versatile. You have 3 bezel inserts and 2 bracelets and if you add a faded Pepsi insert it gives it a nice vintage vibe.

I vote Datejust as well.
The fantasy of the large bezeled sport watch dressing up with a suit and tie and formal-ware is just that, fantasy. The old GMT is a looker though.

With the GMT Master II 16710 you can change the bezel INSERT and bracelet at home. You going to change the dial & bezel on your DJ at home? Come'on now.

I don't agree---the gmt looks just like a sub. You aren't really dressing it down. It's a bulky tool watch through and through. I agree that the datejust is more versatile. Having said that, I dislike the datejust styling and would take a gmt over a DJ every time.

The Datejust comes in 26mm, 31mm, 34mm, 36mm, and 41mm.
Does not get more versatile than that. The GMT only comes in 40mm. Game. Set. Match. Datejust. |

I don't think the bezel would be too difficult, but nobody said that or the dial needed to be done at home. Regardless, Datejust is more versatile style wise in my opinion.

The GMT is a watch "designed to show the time in two different time zones simultaneously, the GMT-Master, launched in 1955, was originally developed as a navigation instrument for professionals criss-crossing the globe".
So, the GMT was designed for a specific purpose. I think the "versatile" watches of Rolex line are the Classics, including Day Date, DJ, and OP. These were designed for everyday wear rather than a specific purpose. |

i'd vote for the blnr. the touch of blue and rotatable bezel give it that sporty edge, while the polished centre links gives it the elegant look

I’m surprised that the Explorer 2 hasn’t been mentioned here. I find it remarkably versatile, and functional.

I'm not sure that changing bezel colors makes a watch versatile - I guess it depends what it meant by that term. I see it as a single watch that can be used for a wide range of varying activities, and crucially without having to change anything. So naturally the answer is Explorer II

Yep DJ. The other ones are more specific types for those who went a bright bezel or chunky case or extra shiny bracelet etc

Two tone Datejust is the most versatile for me. I love the GMT but the bezel is a little too colorful to be dressed up in my opinion, especially the pre ceramic models.
I wear a gold ring and a gold bracelet as well and the Datejust compliments those perfectly. I pretty much wear the two tone Datejust anywhere from a hoodie to a suit and every thing in between. It looks right at home each time.

It's very versatile, however there are some other models that are too. I think it's very personal

I think a bezel change on a date just is a job for a watch maker. Isn’t it part of the waterproof seal. It’s not a pop off pop on job like 16710. Correct me if I’m wrong? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This was my point. I was not referring to which reference had the most styles to choose from at the AD but rather which particular reference is most versatile. No changes bezels on a DJ. You may change the bracelets but that’s it.

Your opinion that you cannot dress a sports watch in formal wear is one many here would disagree with. My WG sub goes great with suits. I am sure a YG sports watch would too.
