Love my New Yachty II, But.....
YM 2 FRUSTRATION (2).jpg
This watch is perfect for me in many respects. Well-sized for my 8" wrists (just shy), weighty, which I like, and, of course, the non-traditional design and function. It's neat to look down and see something completely different than any watch in my collection. But, it is not nice to look at if I need to immediately ascertain the time of day. I can't believe Rolex changed the blue colored hands of the pre-2017 models, to the white gold and white hands. I mean, isn't it a no brainer to have hands that contrast with the dial color? Isn't readability a basic consideration when designing a watch? I have to position the regatta hand at 12 in in order to be happy with readability. |

Sorry, but I’ve never really understood the YMII?
It’s primary function appears to be a very expensive & slightly over complicated 10 minute count down timer with telling the time a bonus feature not a primary one. Looking at the old v new versions, as you say at least the original had clearer hour markers & contrasting hands. I appreciate you wanting something different on your wrist from the regular stuff that everyone else seems to have but if the basic functionality of telling the time appears to be so difficult maybe it explains why it’s never really been very popular. Watch is useless if you can't easily tell the time.

A stunning watch but I agree the hands would be better if they contrasted the white face.
Enjoy. |

Rolex obviously decided to tidy up the appearance by making the regular time function less visible. Now the countdown timer function defines the look of the watch; white dial, red hands, blue bezel.
I like both the new and the older blue hands version but prefer the cleaner look of the new model. |

It's a nice watch, but what's the essence of a watch that can't tell time?

That’s a nice watch! Congratulations!
I didn’t even notice that they changed the hands from the DJ style to the Mercedes. |

That watch is absolutely badass, congrats! It needs no introduction and it commands the attention in a room, a beautiful and robust timepiece. I agree they should have kept the blue hands for contrast, but it still is quite amazing. Enjoy the heck out of it!

It's a great looking watch - I see it's primary function as being a superb piece of engineering and a regatta timer, with time-telling as a secondary function. Let's face it, nobody really buys a Rolex just to tell the time

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again (to the chagrin of many on TRF) the YMII is the 4 digit Daytona of our generation. Unloved, reviled and misunderstood yet destined to be rare and subsequently valuable. Just like the 4 digit Daytona, difficult to sell, low production numbers, languishing at ADs...ring a bell?
Here’s mine last year in Greece.
