I like the white more like you but if I was offered a black dial after already waiting for 3 years, I would gladly take it. Yes the white dial is the one to get but the black is just as nice. Also, the AD offered you no guarantees of a white or how long the wait will be.

I would buy it as well. Its a no brainier if you do get the call on the white in a year, then just sell the black more than likely on a nice profit

If your AD called and said you could have the white for £1.5k more than the black right now, would you get the white? If yes, you’ve answered your question - get the black now, sell it and buy the white

Lets do the math on this with White Dial being a default Yes.

Buying black dial + Just because it's a Daytona and losing spot for white dial=No
Buying black dial because it sings to you= Yes
Buying black dial + Just because it's a Daytona + not losing spot for white = Yes, because:
Selling black dial(in pristine condition) for almost double MSRP = White dial at zero or almost zero out of pocket dollars.

So I would say to you that you can't make a decision looking at your computer and reading the forum. Go to your AD and:
1. Ask if you will lose your spot by purchasing black dial
2. Put your arm on the counter and have them put the watch on your wrist.
3. Look at it really hard.
4. Walk around the store with a little.
5. Go back to counter, put arm up on it and look at watch some more.
6. Combine answer to question 1 with any feelings from wearing watch, stir well and make your decision from there.

Should I take the Black today or White much later?

I went through the same ordeal with my AD. When I was offered the black I immediately said that I would like very much to buy the black as long as I kept my turn in line for the white. I was obsessed with getting the white.
I’ve got the black that I liked very much but because I was set on the white I couldn’t wholeheartedly enjoy it.
Eighteen months later I got the white and I was ecstatic. I truly was in heaven. I wore it a week straight and then I put it next to the neglected black dial.
All of a sudden my mind was blown. The black was a truly nice watch. It took the white dial to be able to appreciate the black dial one. If I had to choose then the white would have to be the one to go. Incredible watch but it can be too loud for certain situations. The black one is never out of place anywhere.
The 16520 is now truly the white one to go for me now.
Buy the black now. You will not regret it. Also plead to them to put u in play for the white.

My AD had both when I was offered to pick. After side by side comparison, I took the black one without second thoughts.

A lot of folks are fixated on the white dial without seeing them side by side...

Get the black. At least you can read the black. White is bad contrast.

Whatever u do- do NOT pass on the black! If you are not feeling it after a couple of months you can figure out your next move. I have both and as much as I love the white, I love the black just as much. The black looks like the watch Bruce Wayne would wear. It’s just incredible!!

Guys, you shouldn’t advise a fellow TRFer to get something that is not his first choice.

OP what is your AD’s name and city?

I would reach out to a trusted seller to see if they could take it in trade and what it would cost you to get the white dial.

I've been offered both and the white is my favorite.

Consideration: I like the black one a lot, but I like the white one more. Also, if I take the black, I believe I'll never be offered the white one as the AD will feel like he already "took care" of me. What do you think?
Get the Black one! It is way better than the white one. Wear it a bit and you will see. And congratulations! That’s a chance you’d better do not miss!

You could go with the herd mentality and perpetrate the flipping culture that is blighting our hobby, or you could pass on the watch leaving it for someone who would actually treasure it

I would recommend getting the black one. I just bought one and am waiting for delivery in a day or two. I have heard Rolex is keeping track or going to start keeping track of serial numbers like Patek does. If you flip your Rolex they will refuse to sell you another Rolex. Time will tell if that is true but I am not taking any chances.
