Congratulations
Amazing experience
As the first customer to walk in, you should have been offered any reference you wanted, if you wanted DSSD so be it.
They should put you on top of list if nothing else!

Great thread and pictures. How did it work with so many people going in all at once with respect to inventory? Given the shortage of SS, I'm sure there must have been some sort of battle for the subs that you mentioned.

It was really a free-for-all type of deal. Grab an associate and point to what you want assuming nobody is grabbing the watch already. They had about 8 or more sales associates that day to assist customers. It was frantic but very civil.

Glad to hear it was civil although I wouldn't imagine it staying that way if they had a Daytona or BLRO. Seems a like a pretty cool experience being there on the first day.

How many were you allowed to buy? Greed would have taken over and I would have swiped my card and gotten the 114060, DSSD JC, GMT and a Sub Date LN in one go - Rolex SS collection done then.

I didn't push it. I suppose I could have purchased two or three watches. However, I think it was only fair for everyone to have a shot at something they wanted.

Nothing is fair in this market and day and age. After first purchase I would have just asked for more

I don't know how to quote multiple people in a single answer.

To answer your question, let me say that the Boutique Manager (Marc) did a wonderful job coming out of the store around 7:35am and speaking to me. He said, "You know we don't open until 10." I said, "Yes, I know. I wanted to be first into the store." He said, "Oh, ok, was there a particular watch you were looking for?". I answered, "Yes, Daytona 500c and Pepsi". He said no Daytona SS and they did get one Pepsi, but it had been sold to loyal customer from their other store. I then said, well if those are gone, I'd like a Green Sub (Hulk) or DSSD James Cameron or Blue Skydweller. He said, "We have a pretty good selection of subs, maybe a black Skydweller (not likely blue), and we do indeed have a new D-Blue DeepSea."

So, when others started showing up, I shared this information with them to set expectations. We all talked about what we came for. One guy (and his wife) flew down from San Francisco, if not to get a Daytona to at least get on the list.

For all after the first few, yes, they had to get a sales associate's attention and try to get the reference they wanted. There was not really an order once you got in there.

At about 9:15, the loud bang was from them using a sword to cut the top off a champaign bottle to open the store. They clean up that mess and then came outside to cut a green ribbon (pictures are in here somewhere). Around 9:25, a nice lady came outside and asked me and the guy second what references we wanted. I told her DSSD D-Blue and LVc. Guy behind me wanted LVc also.

Precisely at 9:30, they came outside and welcomed us into the store (30 minutes early!). The same lady told me and the second guy where to go sit and they would bring the watches we asked for to us (ours if we wanted them). Turns out there was no green Sub, but Marc (Manager) swung by where I was sitting to say he had my D-Blue for me, but asked if he could handle a few other things. He asked me to fill out a card with all of my particulars (name, address, etc.). Because of all the commotion, I really didn't want to get up and move around to look at the inventory for fear they would think I had left and the D-Blue would go to someone else. They only had one!

Marc came by again with the D-Blue in the coffin and asked me to join him because he wanted to show me something special. He escorted me into the DeepSea Challenge area, where they had the Treste and Cameron sub models as well as the 1960 proto and 2012 DeepSea Challenge watches. Just such an amazing experience. I felt really special and was so excited to see my new watch. The rest whizzed by with credit cards and making sure I got my name on the Daytona 500C and Pepsi lists.

By the time my purchase was complete, since Marc was taking care of me, but also the entire store, I felt all the SS references had probably been taken. The sub display was bare except TT and PM.

Someone else on this thread said they came over an hour after opening and there was still a GMT black and DSSD black. I didn't see those, but I wasn't looking, and I was just so happy with the watch I bought. I suppose I could have insisted on buying more, but I would not have kept them all. I really only buy watches I want to keep. Lately though, I have had to buy them at "market" (over MSRP) through a grey dealer I know. Being able to get the DSSD at MSRP was just icing on the cake. What was so special was the atmosphere, getting my name on the card, knowing that forever I will be the first customer at that store, a store that put together a special display on the DSSD Challenge with a huge D-Blue on the wall (the watch I was buying). Those are the special memories I will take away from the experience. This will make that watch special for me forever.

SS Oyster. This and your previous reply show you are a class act, and I don’t even know you. This is how buying a Rolex should be and make you feel. Good on you

I personally have gone over to Omega. You can get the watch YOU want - and not the watch some AD happens to stock.

OP going from this just minutes before opening:

to this:
Problem is for me there are multiple Rolex watches I want, while none are in stock. With Omega all are in stock but I can't find a single one I want

Congrats OP on the awesome DBlue!

Such an awesome thread, wish the forum had more of this, I remember when I got my BLNR in Dubai in Summer 2017 and the way the staff treated me was very similar, makes it all worthwhile

Great thread, thanks for sharing this experience. Reminds me of sneaker releases. That moment of anticipation when you show up and wonder how many others are in line. Then.... nobody is there and you start to question or wonder if you are there on the right day, time, or there is nothing to line up for. Awesome pick up, love the 126660.

Cool that you were able to pick up one of the half-dozen or so SS sport watches they had available, and great that the "demand" caused a line of devoted customers... But does this really translate into sales of precious metal watches for customers who can't get what they want?

How the hell will they generate the revenue to support a brand new, high rent, expensive build-out Rolex only boutique when you can't get the product your customers actually want? Did a single person there on opening day say "Hey, can't get the Rolex I really want, but sure, ring up one of those expensive gold datejusts filling your display cases for me..."
