The Explorer II Enigma. Historical Thread

I had a Exp II a number of years back. Can’t remember why I got rid of it, but I’m pretty sure I just got enamored with something else and sold it to fund the new purchase.

I thought it was an excellent watch. Very functional. I think it’s less desired due to the engraved bezel. Most people just prefer the rotatable bezel you get on the GMT.

I don’t like the 42mm size. Otherwise I think it is one of the best Rolex watches.

I've been following this thread for some time now.

I wasn't looking for an Explorer II when I came across this one. When I saw those lume plots, I was hooked. It's been a great under-the-radar watch like others have posted and I absolutely love it!

I enjoyed the front page of this thread from 2008. That was clearly a different time in SS Rolex ownership.

That is because we are being influenced by opinions on forums, such as this one. I agree with the OP that the black dial Exp II is equally appealing.

The Enigma seems people can’t get enough of them, be they polars or phantom (Black) dials.

To me it is worth it. I did not like the original Rolex bracelet. I did try my SubC bracelet and although it was very comfortable to wear and adjust, it made the watch unnecessarily heavy.

The Everest bracelet fits well and keeps the weight proportional, and looks good on 16570.

Thanks. They’re smartyjones endlinks, they sit between the strap and watchcase. You can google them. The strap is an oak rally strap from straposphereSG (you can search them on IG).

Picked up the black dial last weekend. Already had the white. Funny how its a totaly different watch. White is sporty and fun. Black more elegant and stealth. Black dial also wears (optical) smaller so for those who like the exp2 but are worried about the 42mm size the black dial could be an option. '7+ wrist:

Glad I did... this like new with box, black face w/ 3186 andRolex rehaut is perfect.   Love the red gmt hand, and my favorite... the tiny amount of polish on the edge of the bezel when it catches light.

The perfect fit, proper Rolex tool watch (in my opinion) that can go any where without feeling pretentious and oh so comfortable wt/ht.  This is a enthusiast's watch

Sure Dixon jewlers in humble has a polar right now they say is "new", but I didn't look it over much ......but did try it on.
