15400ST or ROO original Safari

Hi,

I need some help here. I'm in between the 15400 and the Original Safari with the white face. Both are used and the exact same price. It's my first AP and like them all, lol!!! Please help!!!!

I would choose the 15400 hands down. Both are nice watches but its hard to beat the 15400.

I thought nobody even had the 15400. Lol

They are two completely different watches. I like the 15400 for a dress watch. The ROO for more casual. Both are remarkable scratch magnets especially the 15400. Hard choice.

I generally prefer ROOs to ROs but bracelet is nice. Go with your heart.

In the absence of the amazing 5711r could you picture yourself in a RG jumbo?

Oh for sure, the RG RO bracelet is one of the most splendidly decadent things I've ever handled, if anything I am a little frightened of it actually.

15400 hands down. It's also sporty looking enough to function as a casual watch. Never much of a fan myself of the regular production SS 42mm ROOs except some of the LEs.

What do you plan to wear this with? Mostly casual dress? Will this be a one and only watch?

Interesting in that of all the ROOs the original safari white face is by far IMO the classiest. I go with the 15400 if its the blue dial. If not , its a tough cal for me.

Tough one for sure but the bracelet and clear caseback to view the 3120 movement make the 15400 the choice for me

To me a RO should be the first AP. ROO's are for later. Both great watches, but I think a RO on a bracelet is the best intro to the brand.

Thanks for all your AWESOME responses! It would be 2nd watch. The first is a stainless YM II. I would like to really wear it with a combination of everything, casual and business attire. I saw someone wearing it with a suit and it looked spectacular!! The 15400 would be a black face but when I checked it with my AP Boutique it was reported stolen on 2015. So, I guess the choice is easier now. Also, the Safari is a 2011 but Brand New never been worn.

The OG Safari is a classic piece and if unworn then that's a result. I think it also goes better with a YM2.

15400 gets my biased vote. I actually think it's more versatile and as many have said, as the first (and even as a one and only), RO hands down.

15400 for sure. Back in the day, the 15300 was my first ever AP, followed by a Safari. I miss the 15300 much more. The bracelet on an RO is a true work of art.

I figured as much buddy

To be honest I’m tempted by it regularly even though I have the steel.

Agreed!

OP if you would consider the newer safari I know where one can be had brand new at a solid price. PM if interested.

Icon7 Has to be Ro

Hi I have both and next to my Nautilus and Aquanaut , the 15400 with the white face gets the most wear as it is high on my leg of favorites.I have a safari, black face, red hand, Black and red stitching, a goergeous piece but the 15400 gets twice the use. Frankly there is something about the Safari that puts it below my list of favorites. I have several Rolex’s , 2 VC ‘s , 4 Pateks and the 15400 is way near the top of my favorites. IMO even if you have to go elsewhere or wait awhile, please please, get the 15400 first- you will never regret it.

Before I purchased my first Royal Oak I bought a Navy ROO 42mm and a Ceramic (2017 edition) ROO 44mm - I significantly prefer my 15400ST to both of those.

In fact I would take a simple Royal Oak before the majority of Royal Oak Offshores out there! That might sound crazy to a lot of people, but the stunning bracelet, metallic waffle dial, elegant proportions and incredible bezel finishing truly captures the essence of a great Audemars Piguet watch.
