What a nightmare! Very sorry! What is the buyer of your GMT saying? It can't be good, of course. I'm sure he's demanding a refund.
However, how do you know for sure that the package was stolen? You said that FedEx only told you the package was "lost." Does that mean permanently lost? Or is FedEx still searching for it, and is it possible it can still be located? Perhaps it's just temporarily misplaced or accidentally shipped elsewhere and will turn up at some point. Good luck! |

FedEx says they don’t know where the package is. There is a file open in case they find it somewhere but...

Wow, this is incredibly sad...and a reminder of the risks of uninsured shipping. I really hope you find it. I will try to look at any local postings over the next few days. You can also try the watch section of dubizzle.com
Also, I scoff at anyone narrow-minded enough to equate Dubai to a region of over a dozen countries and stating it has a "questionable" repute. |

This thread is also a reminder to the simple fact that "an old watch is maybe become too valuable".
Imagine a de facto dialogue: A: "So, you lost a watch? How old was it?" B: "47 years" A: "OK - that's really old. Did it work and what did you pay for it?" B: "Yes. I paid 12.500 USD for it" A: "OK - so, you paid 12K USD for a watch that is 40+ years? B: "Yes" A: "That's insane. How do you expect an insurance to work for such goods? Listen - a mechanical watch to tell time and that is 40 years old and do not glow in the dark - and probably not even water tight." B: "Full refund" A: ? And. that is how TRF and other sites become alienated... |

It's becoming cheaper to fly to pick up or deliver personally. Just had a quote for a fully insured shipment London to another EU country of almost 10% of the value of the watch.

An old painting in bad condition sold for $450 mil the other day. How, and by whom, is a website "alientated"?

OP, Im very sorry! What did you declare the was as? I hope you did not declare it as Rolex Watch cuz if you did you are asking for trouble. Its not the first time the main carriers have had issues with pilferage due the blatant obvious description of the package. Believe me I know...

By the way, I had a GMT 1675 stolen at a U.S. postal facility in Chicago a few years ago and the USPS paid for the fully insured amount. As a reminder, UPS and FedEx do not insure jewelry/watches - you need your own insurance such as Parcel Pro, Jewels etc.

FedEx doesn't offer insurance above a very small amount for jewelry. To insure you would have needed to obtain your own policy with worldwide coverage. Anytime a package travels internationally there is higher risk, no matter where it goes. Perhaps next time you should consider insured registered mail for your shipments where you do not have your own policy. Good luck in finding your package.
