Service costs

hey guys,
My aunt has a 26mm ladies DJ that is having a slight problem. She received the watch about 10 years ago when she got married and wore it on and off until last year when the watch began to run a bit slow. I went over to her house yesterday and the watch is running about a minute slow per hour.

My question is since the watch is now 10 years old, does the watch need a complete overhaul, or does the watch just need a basic service? Also, what would be the price for each?

Mr. Dietel chimes in on the forum now and again. You can probably find him in the who's who. He charges $350 for a service plus any parts. A full service should include mainstring, complete stripdown, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, touch up.

There is no such thing as "just lube the internals....".

An overhaul is referred to as a COA (clean, oil, adjust) Service by watchmakers. At Rolex, they take the watch completely apart, clean each part, replace any worn parts, reassemble - and they also refinish the case and bracelet.

At a typical watch shop they may only take it down to major sub-assemblies, sonic clean the assemblies, re-assemble and re-oil; parts are seldom replaced unless they are broken.. It's best to know what you are going to get for your money.
