Which black-dial would you choose?

I love the new OP39! It's a shame that it gets branded as an "entry level" Rolex. It's beauty is in its simplicity and symmetry. I'm not a fan of the cyclops, so it's an easy choice for me. You may have different preferences, so follow your heart. The only drawback is the lack of EasyLink.

Track down a nice example Explorer 36mm. Best of both worlds between two of your choices. I just went through this exercise for a daily work watch and ended up buying a 114270.

I would pick OP39 for its clean and elegant look. It has the same movement as the Explorer but the price is almost $1k less.

I was looking at all three of those watches and picked the 36 mm datejust in black. It is a classic beautiful watch and every other date is red.

Today is the 8th and it is a black day!

Explorer all the way. I thought I would miss the date but it isn’t that big of a deal in the end. I love my Explorer more and more every day and can’t see myself ever getting rid of it.

Decide first how important a date function is to your lifestyle. If yes, then a DJ is the way, but you might want to try a DJ41 smooth bezel which wears pretty much exactly like an Explorer but gets you a nice 70h power reserve. Otherwise the Explorer is the understated sporty option with easylink (quick 5mm extension when your wrist swells) and an excellent lume which is hard to beat. Good luck in your search! Cheers!

I had the same dilemma when I picked out my first (and only). Mercedes hands sealed the deal, however I went with the older 36mm. I agree with another poster who once mentioned that the 39mm Explorer has too much empty space on the dial.

It's a tossup with the DJ and the OP.
I don't know how much I would miss the date, but I do like that the op has the fully brushed bracelet, and it's a little less common than a DJ

Explorer I is just one of the most beautiful, simple but perfect timepieces that exist. You go look at any youtube watch collector and they all sing praise for the Explorer and there is a reason for that. It is just elegant, dresses up and dresses down. It's perfect all occasions and it's a hard wearing/going watch. You don't have to baby it. Buy the Explorer you won't be disappointed!
