Gold Day Date Advice please + can i wear in the office?

Hi,

I really am keen to pick up a gold day date, just after some advice please.

Is there anything i should look out for or avoid when searching such as over polishing, buying with no paperwork, stretched bracelet.

Can they be worn every day in the office or will i piss people off and get my car scratched by haters? I wear my watch all day every day, even sleep in it so just want to see how much attention (good/bad) it gets.

I seen a 1990 one for around 11k UK, looked in good condition, i noticed they really drop in price from new, what should i expect to pay for a good one, between 1990-2005?

Thanks in advance.

Look on chrono24 for a fair gauge of price. As for wearing it all the time, well it is a gold watch so I'd rather have a SS watch for certain times but it can and is for most owners, esp off this forum, a daily.

It is a watch why would you not wear it?

I will preface this by saying this is just my opinion

If you are in a position of responsibility and you or the company you work for routinely denies deserving employees cost of living adjustments and meaning pay rises I would refrain from wearing a (new to you) gold Rolex to the office. That sends a clear and negative message. Sadly these days this is a far too frequent situation.

If the above doesn’t apply to you/your company there should be no problem, wear it all day long.

I say buy it and wear it. 99.9999% of people don’t notice anyways.

⬆️⬆️⬆️ Agree with Neil.
As far as at work...I guess it depends on the job...I’d say follow Scott’s advice in post #6

If your worried about what you co-workers might think, do what I did and buy a WG reference. No one ever new that it was gold and not SS.

The only people who will notice are fellow watch people; they'll like it.

Don't worry, get yourself a matching Orient Day-Date and wear that first, no one will notice the difference afterwards except the watch people.

It so hard to believe so many are so worried about how they will be perceived for wearing a bloody watch.

Most people won’t know the difference between a gold DD and a $175 Michael Kors chrono quartz. They are both good colored.

Stop apologizing for your good fortune and desire to wear something you like. You can also wear Dsqared jeans if you want, or Prada loafers. Forget what everyone else thinks and live your life.

for a 18238 you're probably looking at around 12k for a mint example

for a 118238 (post 2000) you're looking at around 17k up to 20k

the most important thing to look out for is probably bracelet condition then polish and obviously box and papers if you're into that. also like most people said you shouldn't worry too much about wearing it at work. the only people that will know how much it is are watch people and as long as your boss isn't snobby you'll be fine

I wear mine and love it, but I will say, I've noticed numerous times people blatantly staring at my watch in meetings. Haven't noticed the same level of awareness when wearing my Daytona or Submariner 16613lb.

No-one has asked me about it, but some of the stares were pretty obvious and lingering, the gold really does shine, but it's just a watch, and in the same vein, have seen people stare at some women's large engagement and wedding rings as well. No big deal as far as I'm concerned...enjoy

Any yellow gold Rolex on the bracelet stands out like dog's balls. The 18K itself exudes an aura not present in gold plated fashion fluff. How it goes down from there depends on you and the people around you. These are the definitive eff off kiss my anus watches.
