I don't worry about it but I'm the boss. I have had clients take dim view of a YG but WG is not noticeable to anyone.

Gold Day Date Advice please + can i wear in the office?

That sends a clear and negative message. Sadly these days this is a far too frequent situation.

If the above doesn’t apply to you/your company there should be no problem, wear it all day long.

Wow!! I’m glad I’m not in the public sector. That is a dog eat dog world. I wear my WG submariner to work every day and nobody thinks twice. They know I am a watch nerd and my work mates always come to me for advice when purchasing watches. Of all the advice you are seeking OP, could be pages and pages of responses. If I were you, I would purchase from an AD. If that is out of the question, I would purchase from one of the three trusted sellers here on the forum. These guys are pure professionals and you cannot go wrong. If you are worried about being to “flashy”, purchase white gold. Most people won’t know it’s gold and just think it’s SS. If it were me. And It was going to be my one and only precious metal watch, I would 100% buy a yellow gold watch. Good luck.

Here are my three precious metal watches. I tried to have a well rounded collection but unfortunately, I don’t have a DayDate.... yet

I'm the boss also, which is exactly why I do worry about it. Actually, not worried, but rather cognizant. But that's me. I say do what you like, deal with whatever comes with it.

Yet another strange question
I guess it’s like visiting a big city - if you feel like you’re in a place where you shouldn’t be (with your watch), get the hell out of there, or at least get a less conspicuous watch. Yes, that sounds strange - regular people tend not to pay attention to watches. You can always explain it away by saying it is a Mchael Kors, or is even that too much ?

Is there anything i should look out for or avoid when searching such as over polishing, buying with no paperwork, stretched bracelet.

Can they be worn every day in the office or will i piss people off and get my car scratched by haters? I wear my watch all day every day, even sleep in it so just want to see how much attention (good/bad) it gets.

I seen a 1990 one for around 11k UK, looked in good condition, i noticed they really drop in price from new, what should i expect to pay for a good one, between 1990-2005?

Thanks in advance.

take your time, insist on box and punched papers, make sure its a rolex bracelet, get the accuracy tested, its easy for a watchmaker, ask to see it with the back removed, again easy, but dont then assume its water resistant afterwards, look for thick lugs.

i'm in the same boat as you and this was my process:
1. i want a dd (love look of bracelet and day function)
2. yellow gold would be the boss
3. if i am buying a watch it's not just for pyjama parties where i'm dressed up as a pimp, i want to wear it all the time
4. maybe YG is too much?i don't want to look like the "don" (the most famous tv mobster wore a YG DD guys)
5. i'll get white gold
6. 18239 blue dial looks nice (dark blue and fluted bezel)
7. 6 digit watches seem so much "tighter" - price difference not huge, better water resistance. plus heavier :-) - i'll go 6 digit
7. holy s**t someone has put a 118206 ice blue dial on a 118239 and it looks amazing
8. wow 32k AUD for a 118239 with a 118206 dial. thats a bit rich maybe!
9. what? i can buy a wg sub for $36k!
10. i buy a smurf.

hopefully you have better focus than i do.

also i completely understand why you would be hesitant to wear a YG watch at work and frankly i think it indicates you've got good sense. the YG is front and centre (although i also agree that in some circumstances one might wear a watch for years and never have it noticed at all).

i really like the smurf but now i am totally addicted to pm watches and i still want a YG watch for lying around at home.

This made me chuckle. I think i will end up saving and spending more as i want a tighter bracelet thats been well looked after. Its really hard to find a mint one for under 12k (GBP) that ticks all my boxes.

And your right, we live once, if anyone does envy or hate, its probably because they wish they had it. Im here for a good time, not a long time :)

You must take my advice as this has happened to me.....

Do not wear that watch.. it should only be worn in restaurants, casinos, boxing matches or weddings. That is the only place for that watch. Don’t wear it to work, absolutely do not wear it to work unless you are leaving the job..

Rolex day date is bad luck.. my day date ruined my life... I pretty much lost everything by wearing that watch.. it’s bad luck.. seriously...
look what happened to Martin Luther king..

I have been attacked physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually by wearing a day date. It’s bad luck.. serious

Huh? In another thread you recommended a member get a Platinum Day-Date for his collection, a PM piece if I recall correctly?

There's an old saying in the watch world "Nobody ever notices your watch unless you're wearing a gold Rolex". Okay so I just made that "old saying" up. Yes it will get noticed. Not by everyone but by some (whether they comment on it or not). Will that be a positive or negative thing? Can't say, I guess it depends on how nice a guy you are.

You seem like a nice guy to me so I say go for it.

I think some people just see the £25K (appx.) on your wrist, looks more in a shiny gold lump.

Enjoy your portable chattels I say!

People will notice a yellow gold Rolex. Whether it matters that they notice depends entirely on factors specific to your workplace.

YG Bark DD

I've worn my YG black dial bark Day-Date to the office and to client meetings. I wouldn't say it's an under-the-radar watch however. Once a colleague asked me about the watch. I told him it was a classic, a statement piece. His reply was "that's more than a statement piece, that watch says I'm in the statement business!". Not sure if that was a compliment or a criticism but in the end I really don't care what people think.

Wear it proud!

We do not know the folks in your office and what they wear or how they act, so hard to answer. As a general rule, most people could not care less what watch you are wearing.

Can't argue there!

I don't think I could ever get tired of bark. I wore mine to work today. In fact, I had a presentation in front of our biggest client. I don't mind letting that client know that my employer pays me well enough to provide them the best service possible. Now, my boss might think I'm overpaid which is a different story. But, he keeps me around so I must be doing alright.

i wear my day date to university every day (freshman) and honestly, with the flashy michael kors/fossil watches around, a day date is more understated than a $100 fashion piece...
