Don’t get me wrong. I love Florida. Live close. Go there a lot. Routinely in fact. My in-laws live there. I’m just saying their property taxes are much higher than mine. They pay 3-4x more property taxes on their house and land than I do yearly, and their house is slightly less than half the size. But as stated above, no state tax is nice. I can’t speak for the UK. NO IDEA about taxes there.

In UK we pay stamp duty tax when purchasing the house.
£125k - £250k 2%
Up to £925k 5%
Stamp duty is excluded for first time buyers.

We pay an annual council tax which depends on the size of your property. Unfortunately for me I’m on near the higher band which is nearly £2k.

In SE UK (not London) a modest 4 bedroom detached house, with garage/driveway and medium size garden cost around £500k.
Last time I checked in Florida, £500k can get you a bloody massive villa.

Not in all counties. I only pay about 1.25% of assessed/market value.

Homestead exemption helps with property tax too in Florida. I recently moved back to Indianapolis after living in south Florida for 4yrs. I ask myself why did we move every day this winter drags on. Enjoy your time there!

I own a co-op in Fort Lauderdale. Broward county. Property taxes are 2% of value. So, a 500k home will have taxes of 10k. Homestead exemption gives you 50k off assessed value. So you’ll pay 2% of 450k. Cheaper than NJ.

UP here I’m about 2% as well with no homestead exemption and I pay state income tax. But, I’m In A fantastic job market with all I need close by. I call the police and there at my house in 60 seconds literally. Great schools, beaches, NYC, fresh and salt water fishing. You name it, I got it. Heck, I have a dozen Rolex AD’ wthin a 30 mile radius. If I could afford it, I would live in NYC, but I can’t. So, hopefully when I retire, I’ll go back and forth with my residence in FL.

We pay a decent amount relative to our area. However, it is at least 1/3 of what my friends and fam pay back in Long Island, so I won’t complain!
