Should I sell my GMT 2?

I recently purchased a new BB58 and have not worn my GMT 2 LN since then. I prefer the less blingy look of the bb58, the slim lugs and the way it sits and feels on my 6.5inch wrist.

While I don't need the cash, is it worth keeping the GMT or should I just sell it?

I should also add that I've gotten used to the no-date and have no real need for the GMT function, as I don't travel much.

If you don’t need the money keep it until you find something else to flip it. That way funds stay in your watch fund.

If you no longer like it or need its functionality and you're not going to miss it...Let it find it's way to someone who will enjoy it more. And if so, you can always put the cash in better use.

Sell it while you can still get top dollar in the secondary market and then buy something eventually that you truly like

Sell it. Don't listen to hoarders here who will just tell you to hold onto every watch just because you don't need the money.

My advice, Rolex has a big catalogue so find something that matches your tastes. Personally, it sounds like you'd enjoy a 5-digit GMT. Smaller, classic lugs, toolier looking, and can be a direct replacement for the new model. If you want something different but still with a GMT function than try out a 16570 Explorer II. You could get a Polar to contrast dials with your BB.

You don’t wear it. You don’t miss the date or use the GMT function. Where’s the debate. Sell it.

Sell it. You clearly don't enjoy/wear it as much anymore, might as well get the most out of your money at the moment.

You’re in the honeymoon. Hold onto the gmt for a while longer before making any decisions.

Another little exercise which might help is to pack up the gmt like you’re gonna sell it. Put it away for 4+ weeks, unbox it and wear it for a couple days. If you’ve totally lost your love for it it might be time to move it along.

That is good advice. I'm worried that if I sell, then I'll end up with seller's remorse.
It's not that I no longer like the GMT, it's just that the BB58 is a better fit all round for me.

I’ve owned several watches more than once. Sometimes you don’t know what’s missing till it’s truly gone. Unfortunately that’s part of this, but at the end of the day it’s a good problem to have.

Later on down the road, whether you keep or sell the gmt you might just wake up one day and see it in a new light. Sometimes someone posts a picture or video of a watch and it makes me feel like I must have that!!! Lol. I know, I know, it’s marketing 101 haha.

But that’s the beauty of having a collection. I’m not sure which model you have exactly but Assuming it’s a SS, they’re not getting any easier to get these days. Try out what I said. Pack it up like it’s the last time you’ll see it, put it away for a while and take it back out after a few weeks.

While the 5 digit dimensions may be more like the bb58, I think I'd miss the solidity of a more modern rolex.

One option I've been considering lately is a DJ36 but I already have an omega globemaster and feel it would be too similar. Maybe sell the globemaster as well and pick up the DJ36?...

Sounds like the OP would prefer the 58 over the submariner.

My take is keep the GMT for now. It's price will hold. I wouldn't go so hard looking for alternatives. You will know the next watch you want when you see it. Greay credit goes to Tudor for making such a great watch and to you for wearing what you like rather than what the logo says

You have already made the decision.

Sell it, enjoy the 58

Keep the GMT in the safe for a while. If you don't miss it after a few weeks, sell it if you need the dough.

My rule is if I am not wearing a watch and I don't have that special feeling about it I move it out. Usually the only time I miss a watch is once I have moved it on. Before I sell it I could not mean anything to me. Not having it will be the issue.

Well said! That’s how I know when to part with a watch. I put it away for 3-5 months in the safe. If I don’t go and retrieve it during that time....I’m not missing it and content with the others I have been wearing.

Yeah. I literally went through the same thing last few months. Had a BLNR for months. Bought a 58. The 58 made me realize that the GMT was too big, too blingy and not well proportioned on my 6.75 inch wrist. Just not my style. I knew it all along, but sometimes you need something else to knock you over the head.

Sold both of them (plus a big chunck of cash back) for a 14060m Submariner which I researched has the same lug-to-lug measurement and very similar footprint as the 58. I just wanted a one and done Rolex at the end of the day...

Bottom line is, if you're not wearing the LN. And you're not completely in love with it, there's no reason to keep it if you ask me.

I do not believe this reference is being discontinued, at worst it'll be re-booted with the new movement. There is though a degree of uncertainty about it's future so that being said, I reckon right now, just before Basel is the absolute worst time to sell.

My thoughts as a former GMT 2C LN owner...,
I can’t blame you for not wearing it. When I purchased my 116710 LN in 2017, I thought it was the greatest thing. I even past over 16710s and 116710 BLNRs that were priced really well. Dumb dumb dumb.

After a while, I noticed after each different watch purchase, the LN got less and less wrist time until zero. The bezel hour #s are too big. No idea why they can’t be the same size as the Sub's bezel #s. I also wasn’t a fan of the PCLs.

I found the LN boring and became turned off by the green hand and huge bezel indicators. Ended up selling it for a small profit to my local AD's reseller. I owed that AD for selling me a Hulk and BLNR In early 2018 so I didn’t made the small profit.

Use the money on something else. However, make sure you are truly tired of it.

Note : I did wear the LN during the Eagles incredible 2017 season & playoff run to win the Super Bowl. About the only time I enjoyed the green accents on the watch.. At least I have that memory.

Agree with what the folks above said about packing the watch away for a while and revisiting it in a few months. A piece like a stainless steel GMT Master IIC can always be sold pretty easily. Who knows what the market will hold for it, but I doubt the bottom is going to drop out for stainless steel sport Rolex watches.

If you need the cash, then you have your answer. That's a different situation.

Do not sell now, as you yourself said, because it is a recent purchase, you can still be on the honeymoon stage with your Bb58. GMT is a great watch, I think your love for him will come back.

Forget the honeymoon.

Sometimes you just know.

Swap it into something you would like better.
