How long do you consider a watch before pulling the trigger?

A question I have been asking myself over and over again. How long do you consider different watches (maybe not only Rolex?) and how many do you look at before pulling the trigger?
I'm not only asking first-time-buyers but mainly you guys who already have two or more watches.

I myself look at all different kinds over and over again. Rolex, Omega, IWC, Breitling, Zenith for a couple of months before deciding. My swiftest purchase was when I bought the Milgauss 2-3 weeks after the GMTIIC. Even though I have decided I still have "feelings" for the other watches I've had in mind.

So how long do you ponder and torture the significant other with watch-talk before buying?

It depends, anywhere from 1-2 years. After I decide I want to buy, I look for a good deal then make the purchase.

When I was originally in the market for a Rolex, I was going for the GMTII. I shopped around and looked at the watch for over 3 months. When I actually bought a Rolex, it ended up being an SD. Go figure.

With the Deepsea, I checked the watch out on 2 separate occassions. About 2 months after I saw my first SDDS, I went out and bought it.

In terms of saving for a Rolex, I knew I wanted one and then one day decided I'd buy one. I started saving for one for a little over a year till one day I had enough to buy any of the SS models from the professional line. I then spend the next 3 months like I said, checking models out. Most notably the GMTII.

Depends on the price. Have bought an $1,800 watch or less on an impulse, but when it gets above 5 or 6 grand I normally make sure it's what I want and won't flip for awhile.

Nah, usually i just post about 8 threads here asking the same unanswerable question about what I should like, then pull the trigger based on what others tell me I should do.

I've considered watches for five years and others for five minutes. I almost always know immediately if I really want a watch. The trick, however, is having the money at the same time I find the watch.

I usually take a few months for watches under 3K and about a year for anything 5k above. Since i usually keep what I buy, I don't want buyer's remorse.

Depends on the price. Once I decided I wanted a Rolex (that was the easy part) I took about 2 months researching between the Sub Date, Sub LV and Sea Dweller. Other less expensive watches (<$1,000) I have bought on a whim.

My first Rolex. SS GMTII "D": I logged on here and debated all the options and took about a month. The final decision point was an impeding price increase.

Panerai PAM119: I went to get a TT GMTIIc but it was not in stock yet, so I got the PAM after about 15 minutes of looking at it.

For most my other watches, they were on my list before I saw them, such as the GV and the TT GMTIIc. The TT Blue sub I debated for about a month.

This is pretty similar to my approach to watch purchases. I used to buy on impulse, but I know better now.

I do not buy on impulse and will think about it before buying. I look at purchases as being in two categories "wants" and "needs". Needs are food, clothing and shelter and wants are material goods like watches. So I will spend time deciding on whether to spend the money(after needs are met) or wait. This way I do not feel pressured to buy and know there will always be another one if I choose to hold off buying!!!

The longer you wait the less time you have to wear your watch of interest!!!

I personally do some research on the watch, price and then start shopping to see it in person and find the best deal around then pull the trigger!!

Bottom line, not long at all - week at most???

I go with my gut most of the time.

I spent about 10 minute picking out my Platinum DD from the book. And about 5 minutes deciding on whether or not I'd get the secret watch I just ordered.

How long do you look before you buy a car? Just do your homework and look till you find what you want. Me, I knew what I wanted just had to narrow it down to the 16710 or the 116710 and opted for the 116710 as I have another Pepsi. Plus the weight and balance of the new bracelet just really made it all come together. Three months is plenty of time.

If I have the funds to use on a watch, once I find the deal I like it's pretty quick after that.
