I think we do have only two here and not many in US as of yet. Will take a bunch next week. I have it in bank safe deposit as I wanted to wear my 5167R this weekend - Been too long!

Ken thats a great comparison shot!

I also love the 5980/1AR... but I think id be more drawn towards the 5990 for roughly the same price... it'd be one of those though!

Blue dial on this is superb, similar to the Bluesy.

Gutted that blue dial doesnt go on the standard 5980!!! I'd buy that in a heartbeat! The $20k diff from Two Tone to SS is super hard to swallow!

It would definitely be nice to see it on the SS, the 'bullseye' makes more functional sense but my preference would be to have the subdial the same colour as the rest of the dial. This blue dial on the 5980/1r might be interesting too

Geezes... :O that 5980/1r is sick.. i guess for the 85k price tag it should be!! :D But when you look at the ar two tone for 'only' 20k less... guess you your at 65k may as well go all the way to 85k! Congrats.. monster of a piece!

Its true.. the solid gold day-date 2's are a comparable BARGAIN compared with the all gold pateks! :)

I always disregard the AR for being two tones. But gosh that blue dial is amazing !! That's probably the reason to discontinue the 1a.

Same here don't fancy 2 tones, but that blue dial is quite amazing, but the TT really not for me...

I forgot to cast my vote! Although, after my glowing "incoming" thread it may be obvious.

The first collector wrist watch I purchased for myself (in 1986) was a LeCoultre 3-register (12-hr) chrono. I have loved chronos since. My first Patek was 1993 (time-only Calatrava from 1956), at a time when they were (and I still believe they are) the finest mass-production watch manufacturer in the world.
I was late to appreciate the Genta designs, but embraced them with wide open arms. So when the 5980 blipped my radar, I was completely smitten. And now that I finally have one... Pure bliss.

You can even talk about platinum Rolex models, even if the Platona is 60K in euros retail, you get a new one for 45 K very easily, don't think Patek would do 25% off or that you can find one on the grey market...

I am guessing this for the 5980/1r:
Retail 91.4k with disc. probably 69-73k, used probably 60k.

From my experience ADs will only give 10% discount max in HK. The good thing is the retail price is about 10% cheaper than the retail in the US.

I am so condemned. The only Nautilus that both looks great and fit me without being top heavy and uncomfortable is the 5980/1R.

So everything equals out then. That's a 20%disc right there.

Nice to hear that as I only have the 5712 and was hesitating a little between it and the 5711 Anyways both great watches, must say I really love mine

I thought for the small price difference might as well get a few complications, and don't regret it one bit...

Not even close Jorge. There is a long wait for one of these here and used selling for mid $70's not $60K. In fact find me one for $60k today used and I will gladly buy it guaranteed! I know grey dealers who would for a fact gladly pay $70K for used complete one as well. This is a hard watch to source from AD make no mistake about that.

Well, then maybe I had a golden opportunity then. Because a year a go that was the offer I got from my AD. I should of bought it. But at the time I wasn't ready to sell any of my 13 pieces. If would of be today then it would of been a different story.

Cheers !

I love my 5711. The 5990 is next favorite. It would be number 1, if it came in blue.
