2021 all Rolex scams and mitigations

Hey there,

After reading some of the most recent threads on attempted and concluded scams with rolex watches on this forum, i decided to compile a quick chart on the most common scam tactics currently out there and the ways of mitigation for affected parties. Feel free to correct or add any points you might find questionable.

As a commercial seller of luxury watches i just wanted to let you know what kind of scams (especially with rolex watches) are currently circulating. I personally had to deal with many of these scams.

Many of you will know most or even all of the summarized tactics, i just found it to be quite handy to have them ready for a quick recap in times of uncertainty.

Peace out

This has got to be one of the most useful posts I've ever come across on TRF. Thank you to the OP for providing this info.

1. Sleight of hand, swapping envelope with cash (after showing it to the buyer), to envelope with paper.
2. Stolen pictures or advertised watch is different from the one the buyer receives.
3. Stolen identity or hacked account of known seller.

Thx for the input. Imo 1 has little relation to watches. This also happens when selling a car or something else. 2 and 3 are relevant but can be subsumed under the online scam category. There are many, many more ways how you can get scammed online. I dont think that i should include every eventuality into the list.

No worries. Just thought I'd mention it as it happened in London (if Im not mistaken) this year in a seller's home with a watch. I saw it on youtube. If I find the link I'll post it.
