Seems this crowd heavily prefers the 5025G... Not entirely sure if it's because it's the newer design or the blue face.
I did consider the 5146 as well, but found that between that and the 5396 (both being white faces), it was clear to me that the 5396 was the more desirable piece to me. So I cancelled it out from list. |

I don't think either watch is a "compliment" to a steel Rolex.
I do think the 5396 is the superior watch design. I just cannot understand the calendar windows on the top of the dial on the 5205. The 5396 design you can see going back 70 years. And it's for a reason, it clean, classic, sophisticated and we'll proportioned. I agree with some of the other posts about the dial color/ case material. Most of the other combos I prefer more. |

Between these two AC choices, I’d go with the 5205. I prefer the more modern dial and case size, along with the more interesting lug design.
But…I’d take a 5235R regulator over both of these options any day of the week and twice on Sunday. |

Another vote for the classic, clean 5146. A pure AC with useful power reserve and moon phase. Most underrated Patek in my opinion. 5205 is a beauty as well just a bit formal for me.

The two buckles in the picture are Chrome Hearts which is not as gentlemanly as most on this forum are. For these I ordered the belt straps from Chrome Hearts. Belt straps like these are pretty easy but I have some Western style belts that require customizations (see picture below where the buckle in my opinion is nice but strap is crappy). For those, there is a place in Texas a friend of mine has been happy with but knowing I tend to prefer things no one else in their right mind wants, I am talking to Jean Rousseau in NY to make some custom belts for me. https://www.jean-rousseau.com/us/jea...spoke-service/ In all likelihood you have heard of Jean Rousseau. They make a lot of straps for Patek folks. Let me know if you have other questions or want me to make introductions. cowboy cool strap.jpg |

My vote is 5396 or the 5146 as some have suggested. Also, when I first got into Pateks, I hated the 5230 (world time), and now it's the one I want! So don't be afraid to wait, surf, troll these posts, and let time season your tastes.

5205g if you only have 1 patek. The modern case design and that dial wins hands down. Of course, i may be slightly biased. By slightly, i mean very

I don't have the 5396 but the case design is similar to the 5170 which i have and might prefer slightly.
i owned a few pateks and the case shape of the 5146 is great. the size, angles and edges of the watch are perfect. The power reserve is a very useful complication on calendar watches. and the watch has lume hands that i believe go with casual as well as formal cloths. so i join the voters of the 5146
