5711/1R — how brown is brown?

I may have the opportunity to pick-up a 5711/1R in the near future. I love the idea of a rose gold 5711, but I haven’t seen one in person. My only reservation: I am not a fan of the brown dial.

In real life, how brown is the brown dial? Does it read more like a warm grey or is it a true, straight-up brown?

Thanks!

I was in your position last month. Like most Nautilus’ dials, the gradient depends on lighting conditions – I’ve seen it look stormy gray, light gray, golden and light brown. In other words, it’s not just brown. I went for it in the end, and you will regret it if you don’t.

Bought this mid 2018 from my AD. Back then they were trading for about list on the secondary.

Love the heft and the shade of the rosegold but not the brown dial. IMG_20190924_070051.jpgIMG_20190924_070058.jpg

Depends on the light...

I happen to love the color. It is pure class having the brown dial with the rose gold case and bracelet.

If I had to describe it in normal indoor lighting it is a light brown more like a milk chocolate. In the sun light it is a very light golden brown. However there is no mistaking it that the dial is brown. So if your not a fan of brown I would move on (unless you would want to flip it down the road).

Found some time to take a picture yesterday afternoon. Fairly neutral, natural lighting. Hope it helps, and do let us know when you make your decision

This reminds me of a work presentation my father in law attended years ago.

The presenter asked someone: “What’s your favorite color?”
The blue collar guy replied: “Brown”
Everyone looked at him kind of weird,
and so they ask him “why is brown your favorite color?”

He replied “ because it’s the color of my wife’s ass!”

So, if brown is your color, go for it.

That 5711 is a hot unit, but if you don't like the brown save it for someone who does

I would refuse…. if the Nautilus in question is RG. There’s no point buying a watch that you don’t like even if it’s a Nautilus. It’s a large sum of money and if resold there’s goes the relationship with the AD. Better to wait for a suitable model than to buy one due to FOMO.

This is a hard one ey. I wish I have your conviction.

As the saying goes, a bird in hand...

Haha. Due to limited resources unfortunately there will be opportunity costs sometimes. The 5990R would probably the the ONLY watch I consider in RG. But the price is madness and don’t think I’m in line to get one. So yeah it’s Steel or WG for me for now.

Imo, nothing looks better with RG than the right brown tone. Warm and elegant.

Neil's pictures are the best advertisements I've seen for this model. Jaw dropping.
