Tudor - BB GMT vs BB58 Blue

Hello good folks,

I’m considering a Tudor BB GMT or a Tudor BB58 Blue to add to my collection of a Nomos Orion 38, Rolex Explorer 39 MK2, and 1861 Speedmaster Pro. To do so, I’d sell my Datejust 116200 white dial that hasn’t gotten much wear at all since getting the Explorer 6 months ago. Basically it only gets worn when I have that guilt feeling of “it’s there, I should probably wear it” but it’s not like I’m excited to put it on or anything.

I’m “on the list” for a BLRO but I’m pretty resigned to the fact that isn’t going to happen and if it does, it’ll be a few years. So part of me wants the GMT to tide me over until someday when the BLRO might come in. Then if I love it, hooray!, especially since the BLRO is mostly a fantasy.

I’m concerned about the heft of the BB GMT because I previously had a 1st gen ceramic Seamaster 300m that I ended up selling because it was a bit cumbersome for a daily wear. Not horribly so, but it was noticeably annoying at times. Now, this wouldn’t be a daily wear like the SMPc was but I surely don’t want a watch that’s annoying when on wrist.

Everything I’ve read about the BB58 sounds like the size is simply perfect. (If only the GMT came in a 58 case, sigh). It would add some color variety to the lineup and if it isn’t a daily, no worries about monkeying with the date. Just a few cranks if the crown, set it and go. I love the look of the 58 too, but I have a bit of a GMT hankering since I’ve never had one.

First world problems for sure. But curious if you guys have ideas.

Thanks!!

I’d get the BB58 blue. How do you
Like Nomos Orion 38? Due to the relative low cost, I’m always tempted to pull the trigger on one one of those.

Thanks! I like the Nomos a lot but wish it was the 35mm size. The 38 fits my 7” wrist fine but being all dial with a fairly long lug to lug, it wears larger than I’d like for the kind of watch it is. It’s probably been worn less than 10 times in the last 18 months (I’m 100% work from home since Covid happened) so I tinker with the idea of selling it from time to time, but just can’t bring myself to part with it.

Tried on both at an AD yesterday. When I tried on the GMT a while ago I thought it was too hefty but yesterday I wore it around a little bit and really liked the size. It’s definitely bigger than the BB58. I would encourage you to check out both in the metal. If you’re anywhere near Kansas City, one of the local ADs has both in stock.

I have owned the BB 58 in blue and black and I currently have the sterling version. They are nice watches and very comfortable and wearable. I also own the BB GMT and it is my favorite Tudor. I have it currently on the leather strap but have worn it on the bracelet and the NATO. I like the vintage look and the somewhat chunky case. Mine is rock solid with time keeping and no date issues. I do not think you can go wrong with either and it is a matter of personal preference. I also own a Rolex Pepsi Ceramic and while I enjoy it it gets less than half the wear of my BB GMT. Good luck and let us jnow what you decide.

BB58 fits much more comfortable than the BB GMT.
One thing is I could never get the GMT to fit right since it always feels top heavy even adjusting links positions.

Both are great watches and you wouldn't be wrong with either or both.

After looking at a BLRO in person I bought the Tudor gmt. I like it’s bezel colors better.

Funny, I had a very similar experience with my white dial 116200. Ended up trading it toward a polar explorer. But to answer your question, I think the GMT will fit the collection you have a little better.

The Tudor GMT is just too chunky for me. I have been spoiled by my Batgirl.

100% this. Not interested in trading the Tudor GMT for a Pepsi.

The Tudor 41mms are all too hefty for me, but the BB58s hit the sweet spot for me.

Why don’t you try them on at your AD?

You gotta try both on and see which one sings to you. I have skinny wrists at 17 cm and the bb58 looked dainty on me because my hands are big in proportion to my wrists if that makes sense.

I’ll recommend BB58 as well. TGMT Pepsi is too chunky.

On the list also for the BLRO. Went and tried on the BB58 and GMT last week. I’ve got a smaller wrist and the gmt was way to chunky for my liking. Left with the BB58 on a nato and the size is perfect for my wrist.

Love my Tudor GMT. They nailed the dial and bezel. 41mm with 22 mm lug width is spot on. Proportions are great vs the giant numbers and huge indices on the BLRO. Fits my 7.5" wrist perfectly.

I've seen the 58 at my AD a few times and although it's a nice watch there's just no wow factor for me. Not sure what it is. Feel like it does everything well but nothing exceptionally well if you know what I mean.

Bb58 blue.

The gmt is fine but the hue seems dull, wrong and the dial doesn’t pop at all. The bb red did a better job on the dial and bezel tone. The Seiko skx009 dial and bezel compliment better with just enough classic aluminum pop and that’s a $200 watch.

I think they toned it down so the Rolex crowd wouldn’t hiss. (Speculation)

Just got the BB58 Blue two weekends ago for my daily wearer - ZERO REGRETS. It works so well with straps, the blue changes from almost black to a lush gentle blue based on the lighting, and the 39mm size is perfect.

I've got all three . . . Ex39, BB GMT, and BB58 Blue. All 3 are great and they each have different feel / looks / wearability. The Ex39 and GMT get the most wrist time out of the 3. The BB58 blue is a great looking watch and I really like the color, but it wears smaller than my EX39 and therefore I don't wear it as much. If you've got 7.5" wrists or smaller then I would say the BB58 would be great, otherwise it just seems too small. The GMT sits prominent on my wrist and is solid, plus I love the complications, I don't think you can go wrong with this one its such a great watch. Of course, the Ex39 is just the best watch ever made, so nothing more to add there. :)

BB58 Blue gets my vote. Owned a Tudor BB GMT prior to a BB58 Blue. I like the BB58 Blue better on my wrist (6.5").
Sell the 116200 (with some cash on top) and get both BB58 Blue and BB GMT?

I own both and they are both great.

You really need to see them in person and see which one speaks to you and decide what do YOU really want.

The BB58 is more comfortable to wear on the daily. It disappears on my wrist, much like my 5-digit Sub.

But the GMT is such a cool watch.

Get both!

Judging from your current collection smaller watches seem to be your preference. If that's the case I would suggest BB58 over GMT as that is quite a bulky watch.
