How Do You Build YOUR Collection??

We all have varied tastes and reasons behind how the collection is built. However, at the raw base, how is yours constructed?. Is there an ultimate goal??...

For me, at the base, I'm covering LAND (forthcoming Daytona), SEA (SUB) and AIR (BP).

The 312 provides a unique niche in the collection and won't be going anywhere. I may be adding a Speedy Pro to go that extra step beyond to cover SPACE. . My grail piece would have to be a ROO at this point...

Great question.

I've taken opposite approaches with the two main brands in my collection.

With Rolex my efforts have been directed toward the incatations of the GMT and the Submariner with the emphasis on vintage (at least they are now, not when I first got some of them)

With Panerai my goal was always diversity attempting to "cover the timekeeping bases" with a rarity thrown it.







Not sure what the future holds as I think we are all constantly defining our direction.

I'm starting with icons or classics. First off, they are stunning and second, I shouldn't lose much if I need to flip them for something further down the road.

I usually buy what I think its the icon for each Brand....for example, For Panerai, it has to have sandwhich dial and manual wind (more of an oldie feel), and simple on the dial. For Rolex, I started with the best seller, the Sub, will eventually get the GMT II and Daytona...With Jaeger, I will only get the Reverso, with Glashutte, I will only get teh Panomatic. I just buy what I think resembles the brand the best....or the icon models....

I own the most expensive watch out of the watches I want(ed), it was gifted to me. So I look at it like a pyramid, I'm building from the top down. now I am looking for a nice nd sub, maybe an omega, I am mainly into Rolex, but I think I need to deversify too.

i want to get one of each brand. not necessarily the quintessential of the brand but what i like from the brand.

i also found out that they dont really fit into a daily routine/basis so they dont get really used.

so im looking for another watch that i can wear more casual all around watch that i can use everyday.

and i still dont have an omega.

I buy what I like, disregarding whether they're icons or not..

But I am trying to make my collection for all occassions.. So I would like 1 yellow gold watch (daydate allgold), a rosegold watch (AP royaloak dual time), a whitegold watch (looking for a daytona), a stainless steel watch for semi-casual (yatchmaster ss/pt), stainless steel for very casual (looking for a vintage sub or GMT), a titanium watch for casual (pam 352), an allblack casual watch (iwc topgun), and a casual stainless steel on strap (maybe a speedmaster on leather)..

I pretty much just get (or dream about ) watches that "sing" to me. No real theme although I have an affinity for GMT watches I'm eyeing a Pepsi Rolex for my next project

I am thinking that I kinnda follow Mik and Jdm's path...but the two Omegas that I have didn't...one was a gift and the other was my first watch (I didn't know better)

I started with my first Rolex then added some Breitlings, then I got tired of the Breitlings and decided to add AP (my favorite brand) and then Panerais. Today I have iconic watches of these three brands (Rolex, AP, Panerai), two IWCs and one Breitling.

That's a 359. Comes with a most excellent black strap. I had the bracelet and had to try it.

I get the model that sings to me from a brand, then I buy- Rolex, IWC, Omega, Zenith, Baume & Mercier, Breitling, Tag Heuer, Panerai and Seiko. Mostly sports or dive watches, 3 GMTs, one chrono. I love them all, some more than others. I would love to own a the big IWC Pilot but always unsure if it's worth the money. Next on my list is a TT GMTc. My 2c.

I like variety of brands and dress occasions that the watch suits. Also little technical details like - one with a GMT, one "square" watch, one black DLC watch, one blingy watch...my oh my.... this is going to cost an arm and a leg. ; - )
