Deep Sea or Over The Moon
I'm venturing into Omega territory for the first time and have been tossing and turning over 3 choices.
1) Speedmaster 50th Anniversary Limited Edition MoonWatch (Ref 311.30.42.30.01.001) 2) Speedmaster "Legend" (Ref 3506.61.00) 3) Seamaster Planet Ocean (Ref 2209.50.00) Can anyone here cure my insomnia ? Would help if I know which has the better movement and better percieved value. |

Interesting choices. I think the speedmasters will likely hold their value better than a PO. I'd go for the "legend" speedmaster of the 3.

I'm not much of a fan of winding my watch so, the 50th Anni is out. I really like my PO... try them on and buy the one that speaks to you!

Thank you for pointing that out, didn't realise the 50th Anniversary is a manual winding watch.

Those are very different watches--the 50th Anniversary is manually wound and has very little water resistance. The Legend is automatic, has 100 meters water resistance and the Planet Ocean is automatic with 600 meters water resistance. Which features would you use more often? The chronograph or the higher water resistance of the PO?
One bonus for the PO is that it has the newer co-axial escapement which means that it will need less servicing. This being said, previous Omega movements have also been proven to be robust, etc. So although the movement in the Planet Ocean is likely to need less watchmaker attention, all three movements have been reliable. If I wasn't specifically looking for a chronograph, I would go for the Planet Ocean. |

I'm kinda leaning towards the 50th Anni for that place in "history".
In this part of the world the 50th Anni retails for about USD4.2K, and they are flying off the shelves. |

You want a watch for space? Moonwatch. You want a tough, proven deep sea watch? Rolex SD. Nothing compares!

Hey 5ATM:
It depends on your lifestyle as these models differ greatly. The 'moon' watch speedie range are chronographs and meant for a person who may wish to use the various aspects that a chronograph watch gives them....or...they may want to own one because it smiles at them. Also, don't forget the true Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch is a manual wind. The PO however, is a watch more suited to someone like me who regularly swims and snorkels and doesn't really need chronograph functions. I would therefore choose the PO: Cheers BTW I now own a Rolex SD...the ultimate watch for anything to do with water. |

Thank you for all the interesting views. I've finally made my choice - and it's not one of those I listed above
I'm going for the Speedy moonphase with transparent backcase (3576.50.00) I felt for the price I'm paying for the 50th Anni model, might as well get another similar watch basically, but one that comes with with moonphase and transparent back. More details to enjoy. |

I've had an Omega Seamaster for 10+ years and still very happy with it. Getting ready to purchase a SD. If I were looking at another Omega it would definitely be the Moonwatch.
