Datejust with jubilee band - it's what people usually think about first when they hear Rolex.

Best bang for the buck has to be a used DJ. Nothing else is available for $2k-$3k, and it's the most sold Rolex worldwide.

That being said I have never owned one and currently wear a Tudor BB bought used unworn.

I have heard several aficionados say that the stainless steel sports watches by Rolex have been the best performers over time as far as resale value.

Of course " best bang for the buck" doesn't take into account your enjoyment of owning and wearing it. But typically the SS sports models sell for less of a premium than others , if they sell for any premium at all. Exceptions are new models like the SD43 where folks are unable to source them at ADs and were paying up for them on the grey market. That seems to be waning now though.

I'm not keeping a spreadsheet if that's what you're asking. But I do keep a close eye on Watchrecon and prices on the explorer II Polar have been on the rise from what I've observed. Especially certain models such as the cream dial 16550 or the later model 16570 with the 3186 movement. And that's if you can find them.

I should have clarified. I was referencing the 16570 not the 216570.

I think this is right. Hard to get a polar 3186 under 5k now. I'm after a SEL with lug holes, and those can still be had around 4 for a good example. 16550 with nice patina is going over 5k if the hands have not been replaced as well.

New here but I would say ss daytona 116500 if you could get it for list, steel chrono for $12,400.

Best bang for buck is Daydate 18238. Full solid gold Rolex, double quick set. It is very iconic watch.

Yup...prices have gone up around $500 since I first decided to buy one last year until I picked one up a few weeks ago.

Prior to the SS Sky Dweller, I would have said the 116500LN at MSRP, with the SS variations of Sub, Sub Date, GMT Master, Explorer 1 & 2, OP, and new SS DJ41 (no WG bezel) all being in the conversation.

Outside of currently, produced models the 116520 is really undervalued considering the 116500 essentially just adds a bezel in input expenses.

While under-appreciated, the YM2 and its calibre 4161 movement is one of the most technically advanced movements out there and is a solid value. That being said, the SS Sky Dweller's movement IMO is just as advanced, and at its MSRP, a relative steal in STEEL (though technically White Rolesor).

I don't necessarily agree with all the DJ answers. The question isn't what's the cheapest rolex, but what's the best bang for buck, and it depends on what you want. I would say exp II if you value functionality, milgauss for aesthetics, and 116500LN for investment (at least short term) potential.
