Yes I believe many will buy this based on the resale they saw with the 5522 and in 3 years it will be a watch you can find for a steep discount like most all calatravas.

The movement is a notable upgrade though. Interesting to see Patek finally using a stop seconds after all the nonsense about it being an intentional decision not to use it in the past. I also love to see instantaneous changeover as to me that speaks to thoughtful watchmaking.
Yes and the vid is cool, this one's a grower not a shower.

I think there is too much going on with this one for it to be a serious contender in terms of the masses wanting one. 5522 had the hype of being a limited edition at a very low price point. This one is a bit pricier and busier.

According to Patek & ISO standards, the first day of the week is supposed to begin on Monday.

If so, then why did Patek place Sunday just under the “12” marker instead of Monday?

Inconsistent ... makes no sense to me.

The 5212 is not a bad looking watch but it has some issues, in my opinion. First, the size is entirely too large for the not really new and machine finished movement; I think this watch would have been far more successful in 38mm. Second, the date at 3 o'clock with a non-matching date wheel is a travesty. If it were at 6 o'clock and the wheel matched the dial, I could probably live with it. Third, while the "handwritten" print may seem charming at first, I think it will grow tiresome soon. Fourth, it's not really an annual calendar and so setting the date five months out of the year is not something I'd want to do. Finally, the price is absurd, as it should list for $10,000 less. Still, it will probably be an in-demand piece and if Patek doesn't make too many of them, it could have good appreciation.

Steel complications used to be rare from Patek. As a first for the complication and also being in steel if this has a short production run say 1-3 years I think over time this will do quite well even if initially it's not a big seller.

Disclaimer: 5960/1A owner.
Fear not it will be a big seller starting day 1 without a doubt. My guess is the waits will be long and the threads of not being able to get one a plenty.

PS I love this watch and want one!

i like it.... however my other favorite calatrava is the 6006G... and technically the 5524 is a calatrava too and i love that.

so im generally not a fan of the typical look

How long you guys think the production run will be on the 5212? Before another metal.

I think it will be in the catalogue for years to come.

I hope there are lots of threads about acquiring a stainless steel reference. They’re my favorite on here. In particular I like ones that start with, “I got position 5 on the list...”

Note: I know you can get one easily I mean the average bandwagon hoppers.

I’m thinking 3 + 1 similar to the 5960.

The whimsical handwritten letters and numbers look great on this watch. Quite surprised Patek did this design, and on steel no less. This watch will be a roaring success in my book.

I like that it’s a new movement (even though pretty small for the case). It’s a cool overall look and a fun complication. I’m just not sure the design has staying power. I can’t see owning/wearing this for 20 years. At best, it’s a buy used, wear a few years and flip.

They invested on a new movement so it will be on the catalogue for some time.

Sounds like the 5212a is unobtanium already.
