SD43 Sad Story

Hi all. It's been a while since I've posted here. Just wanted to share with the forum a sad story that happened to me last night. I returned to my apartment around midnight to find the lock stuck, and I was unable to get in. So I called the super, who was also not able to open the door. So he put me in a vacant apartment to spend the night while he called a locksmith to open the door. I was irritated, as it was nearly 1am at this point, but I'm a pretty easy going person, so I took it in stride and went to bed. I returned to my place this morning around 7am and immediately noticed that my SD43 MK1, which always rests next to my bed, was gone. At first I figured maybe I had just put it somewhere else, which would be strange but not completely out of the question. I searched everywhere for it to no avail. After about a half hour, I also realized that the green felt carrying case which was next to it was also gone. At that point I accepted that someone, either the super or the locksmith, must have stolen the watch. I have filed a police report, but I don't have much faith that I'll ever see my watch again. It really feels like a piece of me has been taken...I recognize that these are just pieces of jewelry, but like a lot of people on here, these watches are more important to me than just a simple thing that sits on my wrist to tell the time. I feel nothing but sadness today, not even anger, just an emptiness inside. I really loved that watch, and I miss it.

I have filed a police report and I have insurance, with all my watches specifically scheduled, so hopefully I will eventually get the money and will be able to buy another, but in the meantime if anyone sees an SD43 for sale on here for a better-than-typical price, coming from Cincinnati, Ohio, please don't buy it...though I am guessing it would more likely be pawned or fenced than put up for sale on this forum.

I've attached the last pic I took of the watch a couple days ago, as I was excited to post it in the steering wheel thread after just buying a new car. Sadly, that pic now carries a different type of emotion. I recognize also that there are a lot more serious matters happening in the world at the moment than a stolen luxury watch, but still...it sucks.

Police have two suspects .Sure they have their means to get the info out of them !!

Report to AD and Rolex in the country .It will be flagged as stolen worldwide .

(SA at a store told me about a Breitling that was tried to be sold to them .It still had blood on the leather strap ...)

Wow, that's really a sad situation but the good news is that your watch is insured so no worries, you'll have your new one and you won't be able t tell the difference.
Congrats on the AUDI ;-)

I don't think it was the super (what is that?) or locksmith, more likely someone had broken in when you were away and hence broken the lock. Anyway that is what they will say for sure. Also strange they open without you being there.

Sorry to hear Jason. I know how it feels. I try to buy quality things and take good care of them - they become an extension of you.

From the moment the lock to your apartment door was jammed, is a huge red flag that forced entry was attempted.

Luckily it is insured, and you are safe.

I think a huge lesson here is to never take your watch off.

The few times I have traveled, I sleep with it, and shower with it.

Sorry to hear that. Clearly one of those 2 guys did it. No other plausible explanation based on your story.

I'd be inclined to say somebody has broken in hence the lock issue.

Sorry to hear

There is quite a sense of violation that comes from an event like this.

Hopefully you can recover the watch

I'm terribly sorry to hear this, Jason. I know how much these watches mean beyond a method of telling the time etc. My hope is they'll recover the watch, somehow or better yet do that and catch whom ever did this.

That really sucks. At least it was covered though and you’re alright, nonetheless I still hope you’re able to get it back somehow.

That’s really sad and very sorry. I hope that watch brings horrid karma to whomever stole it.

That sucks man sorry to hear that. I never leave a watch out in my house when I leave. Thieves would pretty much have to dig up my back yard to find my Rolex if I’m not home. Do you have any insurance?
