AP, Tate Modern, Code 11.59

Last night AP in London hosted a dinner at Tate Modern to introduce the Code line of watches, every model was available to try on. Apart from being a fantastic evening it was the perfect opportunity to finally see these watches for myself after having read all of the media reports. Despite everything that has been said the code watches really are very well designed with a beautiful case and they are extremely comfortable on the wrist. Is it a watch that I would buy.....absolutely yes.

Thanks for sharing and for the pics - must have been a great event.

AP certainly know how to take care of clients.

What was your impression of how the crystal looked in person ?

Thx for sharing your experience. I had the same feeling last week when I was at the AD. A very nice watch, very nicely built, great crystal, etc... would I buy it? I think it’s the 15th position in my AP wishlist.

I recently saw these watches in Singapore. TBH, the case is beautiful constructed, it's really very nice. The sapphire crystal...really isn't a game changer and a big deal.....the real let down is the dial side. ....it really comes across....as being a fashion watch...i hate to say it...and the only good combo is the rose gold case and the white dial...the rest just really suck.....even at half the price....used.....hmmm it will fair as well as 4101....even at 11/12/13/14/15K?...no one really wants it.

Forgot to add.....thanks for sharing!!!!

My opinion of the Crystal was that I couldn’t find anything to dislike about it.

Ash, didn't you find the crystal distortion when you tilt the watch annoying? I certainly did and still do - its weird, unpleasant and definiteloy not a virtue, to me anyway. Last night was my third look at them, but my opinion hasn't changed, sadly, and they're definitely not for me.

Hi Chris I looked for the distortion specifically but I couldn’t see it but I drank a lot which might explain it.

The only thing I do like is the open case back and skeleton rotor design. I even really dislike the Code 1159 logo. All in all to me this line doesn't sit well with the AP brand and I find it hard to believe it will prove successful. But who knows...

If you look at the two top watches in your last (bottom) pic its there. Gives the visual impression that the watch crystal is bending upwards and dial bending downwards. The sort of impression you might get if you've indeed had a few too many!

I didn’t understand the benefit of the double curved crystal, but it was fine—it didn’t over-distort in my opinion.

While these watches are not on my radar in current form, I don’t think they are terribly over-priced. In precious metal, an AP of this quality at half the price would be a steal.

Size. These in 39mm in steel and salmon color would be super great. I like it just needs a little more refinement. Also - too expensive right now. But, I like it.

Thanks for sharing. I really want to see them for myself. I’m not a big fan of the dials but I like pretty much everything else. I’d need it in steel and a little lume on the dial would be good for me. I love the movements.

I was at Harrods a couple of weeks ago and they didn't tell me about this event, naughty naughty. OK maybe I ran the Code down a bit but still, looks like the food was good.

A team lead by Jason Atherton cooked the food.

Thanks, Shiv, it was lovely to finally meet you too - always nice to meet a fellow AP enthusiast! I'm glad you liked my Summer Edition - its usually my 'go-to' for such an event and is definitely my favourite. Indeed, I think its the best ROO 44 created to date, but I am very biased!

The Code watches definitely need to be seen in person rather than on the internet.

Yep I am trying to get one Chris. But its unlikely through AP direct. Lovely lovely watches both that and the PT.

Thanks Ash. I actually ordered a watch for her at the event. The lady sitting opposite us was wearing a gold diver and my wife noticed it and my wallet ended up having a heavy day.....

Something tells me you'll be invited to AP events again

Your wife was very pleasant, I must say (apologies I can't now recall her name), and has the same long-suffering approach to watches as mine. Its a pity my wife couldn't make it in the end, but she's working on a significant new Sam Mendes feature film, and when they click their fingers she must go running...
