Red Sub 1680

I am currently in search of circa 1972 Red Sub 1680 in good to very good condition with box/papers/full set. If any of you have any suggestions where to begin my search it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

No budget..

Would like to find a real gem/complete set in good to very good condition. Must be a reputable seller I can trust since dealing with a vintage watch..

Here's one but weirdly has a crown issue after being serviced?

the one in the link above seems to have a service insert among some other small issues.

to the OP

honestly, if you're looking for a real gem, most likely an untouched unpolished full set original owner piece, I think you could be waiting awhile as they rarely come to market. They typically change hands privately from collector to collector.

If and when one does come along, I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer would be asking 50k.

Now if you don't mind un-ticking a couple box's on the condition scale, then you could more easily find a nice example complete set for mid 30's.

hard part about hunting for the right piece is that it can take months and or years. They never come along at the right time but you have to be prepared to pull the trigger when that right one does come along. just my 2 cents.
I would leave word with andrew shear, eric ku, matt bain, those are some top state side dealers that travel the world on the regular and they may be able to source one or know of one. they only deal in top examples

Not 100% what you are asking for, but it is a 1972 1680 from a very reputable seller. Good luck on your hunt!!

Like SubKing said, it would be better to untick some boxes. You'll be waiting years, and possibly forever...

I have all the time in the world and I’m looking for a 1972 red submariner 1680 in very good to excellent condition and when I find the right timepiece I will be happy to pay what I need to to acquire it. I have many nice timepieces and know what it takes to keep these items in very good to excellent condition....

My mistake the invoice is 1972 But the watch was made in the first quarter off 1969.

I have a question to the group posting on this thread. Has anyone auctioned a watch on this site by PM, etc. or is such allowed? - Thanks, Jon

Thanks. I have a "father/son" pair of Red 1680s that I'm considering offering as a pair. They belong to my father and myself, and we are the original owners.

One is 2.22M, 1969, other is 2.9M, 1972. '69 is a Mk II dial. I have to confirm the '72.

This maybe helpful http://drsd.com/watch-info/red-sub/redsub.html

I am not sure if you can 100% determine the year , my MK1 clearly has 1.69 in the case back and has a serial number 21xxxx .I have only seen one earlier serial number than mine on a Red Sub post on TRF but there is without doubt earlier examples out in the wild

I'll inventory what I have and let you know. Dad and I were/are not watch collectors, and so some items may have been lost over the last 45+ years. I know I have original boxes, and some other items (seals, anchors, etc.) plus I believe I have sales receipts for both.
