No love for Daytona!

I have never had any desire to own any Daytona, ever! To me they are not attractive at all. I do own other chronographs though, such as Speedy, Evolution, Planet ocean, Carrera Cal1887!
Is it just me or there are others who think like this?

I don’t feel as strongly as you, but I get where you’re coming from. I enjoy chronographs...have a few, and will maybe pursue more. I think modern Daytonas are cool, but don’t have the sort of attraction to me to make me chase after them. Vintage Daytonas from the early days are Uber-cool, but their prices make them impractical and improbable to get. I’m glad that those who like the Daytona can celebrate it, and that those who aren’t drawn to it have lots of excellent chrono options out there.

Before a fight breaks over this, I will say that not every watch is for everyone.
Buy and keep the watch that makes you happy.

Different watches for different tastes, all good :)

Yes I love subs and gmt way more than daytona. Sky is better also. The YG green dial is not bad, the rainbow Daytona hot AF.

Good thing we all have different tastes or the Daytona would be pretty hard to get a hold of.

Ever? You sure you never tried getting one at retail but just couldn’t and then your love grew cold?

I bought a white face non ceramic thinking it was my grail. Traded it in after a year as I never wore it. It was too small in my book. I think the new ceramic versions may wear better but to this date I have not tried one of those on to see if the lust comes back.

Having said that I think the Platona is my grail watch and would trade my entire collection for that.

I don't like the ceramic bezels, they seem to big for the watch, I also find the dial cluttered and the time difficult to read.

The TT version appealed as it removed the ceramic bezel but when I tried the watch on it still didn't work for me.

I know that the Daytona is a well loved watch and a grail for many but its not for me.

Different strokes. I’d pay grey prices for a Daytona over a speedy at 40% off all day long.

Never been a fan of the modern Daytona even less the ceramic one, but the Daytona must be one of the most over hyped Rolex watches. And today many buy and wear the hype thinking they have a watch thats hard to get, yet like most all Rolex watches thousands of them around.

My second Rolex was a TT Daytona (purchased before I knew of or understood all the hype). Along with my YM, they are two of the most comfortable watches I have. I like the dial and configuration too.

When I was in Doha in my twenties, I bought a fake Rolex from one of the bazaars. They had them all and I just picked the one I liked the most. It turned out to be a Daytona (the Zenith years). Again, no idea about the history or anything. I ended up wearing that watch ONCE (I couldn’t get over that it was a fake and I never felt comfortable “posing” after I wore it the once). I got rid of it a few years ago when I bought my first Rolex (YM).

All that to defend those of us out there that actually like the design and don’t care about the hype. I won’t be paying over retail anytime soon (maybe at retirement when I’ll have that nest egg goal saved up).

Alternatively, I have tried on every Speedmaster in the Omega boutique on two separate occasions. I like it in pictures but it doesn’t “fit” well on me (I do like the Seamaster 300m in all shapes and colors, for reference). I will most likely never a Speedy one unless/until my tastes change.

Many people in the community say that a Speedy is “a must” in any collection. Just like those who don’t like the Daytona, I sure wouldn’t go get a Daytona for my collection if I didn’t like it.

Not even watch is for everyone. Lots of hype for the daytona and it’s a fantastic watch. But if it doesn’t sing it doesn’t sing. For me, the steel bezel models did nothing for me. Once they went ceramic I really started to like it more.

prefer the speedy yes. and woudl rather have a sub from AD + speedy from gray + 5-10k in the S&P500 instead of a daytona from a gray...

but i like some of the dials, and some of the PM models..

Agreed. Daytona’s do nothing for me. Chronographs in general are not a function I use or would ever require and typically make the dial too busy for my tastes.

I used to not be a Daytona fan either, having collected many other Rolex models over many years (subs, gmt, exp1, expII, datejust, modern, vintage, etc.).

Daytona is that last Rolex model I’ve taken to, and must say after owning two now (WG first then added the black SS), I’m not sure what took me so long to take the plunge - beautiful watches and wear differently than other sports models, but wear really, really well.

This doesn’t mean I don’t love other chronographs like my vintage speedy too, just that I now fully appreciate the Daytona.

I don't love Daytonas. The TT especially. But, I do like the black more than the white. And most importantly, I like them in PM and on Oysterflex more than any other configuration.

^ my controversial Daytona opinions.

I somewhat agree, with the exception of the ceramic with white dial, which to me is one of the best looking watches that exists.

I respectfully disagree. I have a few chronographs, Omega Speedmaster co-axial, Breitling Avenger and more and have to say my Oysterflex Daytona is the king of them all. I would however say the TT Daytona is probably one of the least attractive TT watches Rolex makes. IMHO.

But hey you buy what you want and I'll do the same...
