I'm about to switch the bracelet on my 1968 Rolex Submariner and would like to fit replacement spring bars the advice I need is, do I purchase Rolex spring bars or is there a better option or make of Spring Bar that I should consider prior to going forward? many thanks "H"

If you buy from a reputable shop you will get good quality spring bars.

However, many AD's do carry OEM spring bars, especially if they have an in-house watchmaker. Spring bars are cheap so don't get lulled into some cheaply made versions.

Yes, this will avoid accelerated wearing out of the holes in the case

Not all Datejust 36 models use the same spring bars. If you have a reference/model number then I can tell you which part number of spring bars you need.

You pretty much need to go to a Dealer for OEM, or you will pay very high prices for a relatively inexpensive part.

Many on-line sources are less than reputable when they claim OEM

Hello SearChart, the model number is 15003. Does this make it a 34mm DJ? What I want to do is replace the TT tone jubilee with a leather strap to give it a more casual look. I've had this watch for 30+ years and has been worn very seldom. Would this measurement between the lugs be 20mm and would I need to aquire new band end pieces or would the original work with the new straps? I would really like to attain quality made parts in fear of the watch falling off because of faulty parts. I'm new at this, sorry for the to many questions.

That would indeed be a 34mm, Date. With lug width 19mm.
This watch uses the 23-9280 spring bars.

You can use these spring bars for a leather strap, but without the end links.

You cannot use bracelet end links with straps. A leather strap will fit on the same way that any other watch; with the gap at the case.

Ofrei in Oakland Ca., has a selection of spring bars, as well as many other parts houses.

A filler at the case would be aftermarket only for a watch that did not come with the integral gap spacer used for strap models.

The other guy (to whom I responded) only said datejust 36, that could be one from 60 years ago, a new one or any of the different model numbers that came in between. Turns out he had a 34mm date, not a datejust.

You're missing nothing, all datejust 36 have 20mm lug width, however they do not all use the same springbars. A 16013 will use the 23-9290, a late non lug hole 16233 uses 23-40200. Etc, etc.

Be very careful when swapping out spring-bars that you get the correct design.

You do not accidentally want to get non-shouldered spring-bars installed into a non-through-holes lugged case.
