Dial differences between 1803 and 18038?

Aside from obvious difference between dials (white, black, Roman, Arabic, etc.), would some explain the difference between 1803 and 18038 dials (Acrylic vs. Sapphire)? Were all the 1803 pie pan shaped? What it the difference on the back side of the dials?

Thanks,

Lee

The 1803 uses a 15xx-series movement and the 18038 a 30xx-series movement, the dial feet will be in different places.

Friend recently asked me basically same question; can a later 18038 / 18238 be adapted into an older 1803? Are the openings for the day and date at the exact same position / same size?

Interesting question Francisco. I assume for this to be done one would have to clip the feet on a more modern dial. Be interesting to know if this has been done.

Does anyone know by now if a 1803 dial can be put in a 18038 ? Is it possible ?
I love the old 1803 matte dials but would prefer to have a quickset funktion on the date

Thanks!

It is not possible to interchange the dials on these two series of Day Date. As has been said already by Rikki the two models use different generation of movement. Not only that but both models use different types of dial fitment/attachment.

The 1803 dials are clip on. They have a substantial "dropped/wrapped" edge which clips around the edge of the calendar ring.

The later 18038 etc... have flat dials with dial feet which fit in to holes in the calendar ring and are then secured with screws.

Given their very different characteristics and shape, method of attachment etc....there is no way to swap between models.
