The YMII is really more useful to a yachting enthusiast.

Same as a Sub is better used by an avid diver than a business man.

Reality is an iPhone can keep better time than any watch - but that's not why we buy automatic watches.

Some purely like the look while others but for the horological appreciation.

Whatever the reason, the default can be the appreciation for an automatic piece compared to a digital item.

While most of us don't time races at Daytona, we can appreciate the movement AND look of the Daytona reference.

Collecting watches isn't a NEED, it's a luxury, love, infatuation, appreciation of a reference's overall...

X1000. Who really races yachts but can't afford the all gold version?

Guys who have never gone diving can pull off a Sub but folks who don't run regattas, why get a YM II ?

I just don't see this watch making any sense.

Buying a Rolex has no connection with making sense. Just enjoy your watch for what ever reason. what ever reference that may be

What does affordability have anything to do with it? Given the fact that most Sub owners don't dive, why is it such a stretch for non-yacht racers to own a YM2??? If you don't get it or think it's pointless, that's fine but the rest of us will enjoy a unique complication in a large case Rolex.

The new 2013 Basel releases sure did hit the AD's in a hurry. Typically it is September before product starts to come in.

I would love to time my soft boiled eggs using the YM II. It is a beauty!

First they see the Yathmaster II
Secound they see the Explorer II
Third they see the Yathmaster I
Forth they see the Daytona

Then they wonder why anyone will pay 18k for a watch when they can get something better for WAY less.

I use my watch (not as a jewelry) for actual work. Mainly to see how much time is left. For some reason I broke all the quartz watches I wore till now, it's weird but for some reason they break (not my fault.)

Digital and analog watches both serve a different purpose. iPhone has a digital (I think that's what you call it.)

It's an interesting and unique complication. I thought most fans of horology liked interesting and unique complications...

We do!! (well, some of us do!)

In terms of practicality, a date is far more useful than a chronograph, and yet I have a Daytona! We choose with out hearts and not always with our heads. If we didn't we'd all be wearing the GMT2

For me, no date is more practical than a date since it saves me from having to set it after not wearing a watch for a week. I didn't realize how nice this was until I picked up my first no date watch.

I'm no YM2 fan (it's too big and the name on the bezel is silly IMO), but the idea that it's not an interesting watch suggests a rather narrow mind.

I dont understand why the MSRP is 5K more than the Daytona, a fully functional chronograph.

I wish I had a YMII. I'd use it to time how long it takes to lock this thread!
