Daytona 100% - IMHO it's the most comfortable of the sports line and the heritage is amazing. I do like the YM II and it will join my humble collection next year - you'll like get both eventually, but I'd lean toward the Daytona as the first of the two.

As was already mentioned, I too feel the YM is the Rolex you buy when you have one or two watches you already like from Rolex.

YM II is my fave watch ever, Daytona has a pedigree on the other hand.I would recommend you YM II for many reasons that is quite nicely stressed on here.
SS YM II weighs 179 grams with full links and it is a non existent watch after a while.It's very comfortable as well

Daytona for me. I think the YM2 has the most interesting complication for a Rolex by far, but the timer is only 10min, and the watch is too big for my taste.

Sounds like you want the YM. Gotta go for what you like the most. Get one and start saving for the other.

Both are awesome watches!! I prefer the Daytona as a one and only. I find the size perfect for all occasions. The YM II is definitely a more sporty feel so if you wear more casual outfits it could be fitting as well. I would try both on, clearly there is a considerable size difference. My wrist is 7 3/4 and both look great. Ensure you are comfortable with both on your wrist before you pull the trigger.

In SS the Daytona wins hands down..in all YG the YM is just SO dramatically huge..a real statement in gold. Love 'em both but I would vote Daytona as an easier daily watch..an absolute classic Rolex design like the Sub.

Two very differentiates. The Daytona would obviously wear smaller. My vote would go to the Daytona because of the size.

The YMII would be my pick. The TT RG YMII would be my first choice, but I'd take SS YMII over a SS (or TT) Daytona. In all fairness the YMII cost a bit more too.

Keep in mind there are a lot more Dayona owners out there so you're going to get a lot more Daytona votes. Full disclosure - I don't own either.

I don't like the way Rolex put on the "YACHTMASTER II" wordings on the bezel. Looks very cheap to me.... no offense to other YM II fanatics here. PEACE!!!

To the OP

If you are like me and intend to keep your watches for life, in other words a non flipper, then accept the fact that your tastes will become more conservative as you progress through life.

I am 66 and the YM2 looks plain loud and even tacky, whereas the Daytona looks cool.

So to me it is a no brainer, the Daytona wins hands down.

I recently had the very same choice/conundrum on my hands. I've already got a TT bluesy sub so I didn't have to additionally factor in the "what's my first rolex gonna be" question. I ended up going with the YMII (TT rg/ss) over a ss daytona because

1) If I'm going to spend 5 figures on a watch, I want it to be unique! While the daytona is a classic, there are SO many homage watches copying it and I wouldn't want it accidentally confused with something cheaper.

2) I happen to love the size and wrist presence of the YMII. It's really a statement and I can't get enough of the white face/blue bezel contrast, plus the rg seconds dial ring.

In the end I dropped 20k+ on a truly unique, no imitations existing in the wild, revolutionary movement Rolex vs the tried and true classic daytona. I'm a collector and probably won't flip it down the line, but if I did I could always swap it for a new SS daytona.

SS YMII for me. The design is polarizing. The Daytona is a beautiful watch but a little small for me.

I too have both and must say the wife gives my Daytona a lot more wrist time since I purchased the YM II. The problem with the Daytona is it wears small in my opinion. It's a beautiful piece and an icon but the YM II just has a fresh new modern presence which the daytona lacks in some respects. That being said, I could not live without either.
