I agree and aware that YM looks better on me shapewise; the Q is if GMT fit is definitely acceptable or boundary

Between the two models shown in your pictures, I would vote for the Yacht-Master. If it was the BLNR, then that would be a different story.

Thanks Tom!! I am a fan of the YM blue dial but I couldn't get use to the original version so it was a very fast flip. Contrast (lack of) was what killed it for me. I didn't want to do the Red accent mods (I am normally a stock only guy) so I moved it along (probably 2008).

I know there is lots of love for the reference but my preference is slightly bolder appearance.

I had the YM for a very short while. The dial is sublime, but it's so monotone that it feels washed out after a while.

GMT (BLNR not LN) or YM (blue not silver dial) gets my vote.

I love the silvery monochrome look of the YM.

I also prefer its sleeker case.

Good luck

For a first Rolex, if you're going for a brand new piece, then you get more bang for your buck with the GMT because its less costly from new, and has the 24h function too. From an aesthetics perspective, arguably the YM is the nicer looking, slightly more bling and shiney, plus has platinum in it. Its subjective of course.

Both are great watches. My entry into the world of Rolex was a GMT IIc for the most 'new' watch that my money could buy at the time. I also happened to love the GMT design, had all the things I wanted like the PCL and cyclops, plus a ceramic bezel.

Someday I might add a platinum YM as I do really like it, but there are things ahead of it in the queue such as a SS Daytona, and possibly a SDDS D-Blue dial.

To me, the GMT looks very square and I prefer the smoother look of the YM.

I think we can all appreciate the position you are in.
Both watches are great choices but as a GMT owner I would recommend it because:
1. easier to read the dial
2. more functionality, especially if you travel often
3. ceramic bezel is not a scratch magnet
4. has a more iconic Rolex look
The only thing I did not like about my GMT was the polished center links. I simply had them brushed.

The GMT served me well for 2 years and I beat it like a rented mule. It's a perfect daily.

I had basically the same choice and went with the BLNR GMT-IIc. I do a lot of backpacking/traveling and make extensive use of the 24h hand. Home time when abroad, S.E. Asia local time while home because a close friend is continuously traveling through there. I'm currently backpacking through Thailand (Koh Phangan right now) and wearing my BLNR on a black/blue NATO, which is perfect for here.

I wouldn't have thought that the "fit" of the 2 watches would be so significantly different that you wouldn't get used to either.

If that's the case, I'd go with the GMT II as you indicate you like the "look" of it better.

For my wrist, I'd choose the GMT II.

How is it easier to read the GMT dial? It's more cluttered with the GMT hand. The blue dial might be a tiny, tiny bit harder to read, but I think contrast is great on both watches. I do agree with you on the other points.

I saw an elderly gentleman with Rolesium on the train today. He looked very proud of the watch. I vote for Rolesium.
