Help me identify this Rolex?
Hi,
Just joined as a new member with the purchase of my first Rolex (Explorer). What a great forum. I need some help identifying a vintage Rolex. My wife was gifted this in a will from her Grandmother about 30 years ago. It's been sitting in a box since then. My wife doesn't like it. I think it is stunning and should be worn and enjoyed. I know that the case is Platinum and the strap looks to be original. The gold bits look to be gold and there is a Rolex symbol on the winding crown and on the watch face itself. There is a number stamped on the back of the case, but my eyes can't make out the numbers. The dial and movement pop out from the glass case relatively easy, but i've not tried to get into the movement for fear of scratching or damaging something. Any information would be great. I want to see if it's worth getting it serviced and then perhaps encourage my wife to wear or sell it. Thank in advance for your help. Neil. |

What makes you think the case is platinum?
Are there any gold stamps? |

62527 is the serial number.
3939 is the model number. 1950's calibre 192 It's worth whatever you can get. Not anything super collectible. Ladies Rolex hand wind used....not a huge market. |

If 62527 (5 digits) is the serial # it would put it at 1936-37 and not the 50's.

Serial number chart for Rolex Oyster cases does not apply to none oysters models - especially ladies. I agree, based on style - 1950s

I've been informed that the watch was purchased in the 1930's.

I would double check that. As "31 Victories" really did not appear prior to early 40s, and the dial is definitely from the late 40s and later period, especially the style and the size of the Rolex crown.

Appears to be steel back, which I have only seen on gold filled watches. They do not mix platinum backs and solid gold cases.
And I would agree, appears to be from late 40's, early 50's. |

Platinum cases should always be marked as such, especially anything Swiss made.
