My instinct is that nobody cares what watch we wear. Why would they? To us they are precious things; to the wider world...just a watch.

They do to be an "attorney at law." In times past most states didn't have bar exams but now they do to police and protect the profession.

Thanks. I was honestly curious, although in rereading my post I could see how it could be interpreted as trying to undermine the accomplishment. That was not intended. With those genes, I'm sure he'll breeze through the bar exam. I know some WF law grads and they are all very successful in their chosen field of law.

Congrats to the Kerr family on a great accomplishment and the start of what will surely be many more.

By the way, is this son not into Rolexes? I noticed his wrist isn't included in any of the watch pics.

I didn't see it that way at all; it is a good question. There are distinctions in the words and it matters, which you picked up on. An attorney at law is an officer of the highest court in a jurisdiction and holds a license to act on behalf of contracted clients in that jurisdiction. An attorney in fact is someone who holds the ability to act on behalf of an individual for a special agency by virtue of an appointment by the principal, which we call a "power of attorney." There are nuanced limitations on both attorneys at law and in fact.

A lawyer is one learned in the law, more specifically, a counselor, but not necessarily an attorney at law. Hence this is why you will see "Attorney and Counselor at Law" if the individual is a JD/LLB holder and has passed the bar.

Now, this is digging deep as hell into it, but there are circumstances where a lawyer, in the sense I stated above, can represent a client. The only one I know of is in immigration matters, I think an advocate on the rolls of the DoJ or whatever can file paperwork on behalf of a client. However, they cannot represent a client in immigration proceedings before the Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR) or any appellate court thereof.

I'm just now seeing this, what are the odds?!? I would have really lost it if you were sitting in my row and I would have looked over and seen you taking wrist shots

HUGE congrats to your son as well as you and your wife!!! I know you both must be incredibly proud. Best of luck to him as he starts his career!

Awesome watches as well!
