Agreed the 114060 is the classic modern evolution of the Submariner. I would even say the narrower tapered bracelet in realation to the lugs connects more with the original design!

I bought the Submariner over the Submariner date model. For me it is THE Sub. I have a GMT master 16700 with date and it is perfect. However for me the submariner is a no date or it becomes a GMT / lookalike. It is not, it should be a Submariner. And to me that is with no date.

I went 114060 myself. Putting the two side by side I just realized how much more I liked the clean and symmetric dial on the no date. And I had been wearing a Datejust previously. Really hasn't been all that hard to get used to not having it. I'm always looking at my meeting schedule in Outlook or on my phone calendar anyway so it's really not that necessary for me because I tend to always have the date in my head already.

Plus there's the cost. Just seems like a big premium for the date. Cost of a Hulk for example doesn't bother me because that seems a whole different watch. But side by side the 114060 and 116610 are the same but for the date and at $1000 less the 114060 just seems the better deal. Shouldn't be a factor if you really want a date version, but if you're on the fence or if your preference tends towards the no date already, that $1000 can make th decision easier.

Submariner. If I need the date feature, will use my GMT.

No date. It's the classic. If I'm getting a sub with a date it's gonna be PM.

So it looks like a better watch from a distance? Where's the disadvantage in that?

I suppose the sub date no looks like the superior SD43 now if you have slim wrists...

True; however, I think that it looks better, and is more suited to other models than the Submariner.

Submariner or Submariner Date? (Poll)

This one. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. The Rolex cyclops is iconic. I never understood how some people forgo it for the sake of symmetry. The date bubble is extremely functional and makes the watch much more useful. A Fantastic one and only.

So to those who say the cyclops is iconic and a 'must have', that means those Rolex without cyclops are thrash? Eg. Daytona?

If I have only one watch, then the date is the one to get. If I have a rotation, the 114060 would be the one to have; no need to set the date! Just adjust the time and you're good to go

I prefer a date.
It screams ROLEX because it is A Rolex.
Clean ND dial is lovely but "date" function is paramount IMHO.

The Cyclops is iconic on the Submariner Date.

No need for a Cyclops on Daytona as it has no date function so no one is suggesting Daytona is trash because of it.

I think some people, myself included, enjoy the ND version as that's how the watch was originally made..no cyclops. So in addition to the uniformity and clean look of the dial it's paying homage to the original. Different strokes for different folks though!
