Gentleman's hair product

Morning All

Seeking advice and recommendations from my fellow TRFers.

I'm trying to find a gents hair product that will hpld definition for a side parting, stop my fringe from falling over my forehead and generally give me a slightly smarter look. Ideally i don't want it to be too visible (eg the slightly greasy look of a lot of waxes), leave a sticky/crunchy feeling in my hair or leave residue on my hairbrush.

All thoughts and suggestions welcome...

I don't think they've invented a hair product yet that makes you smarter.

Perhaps not... But I'm working on the principle that appearances can be deceptive

I have a good head of hair and I use tapalene. It works wonders.

You need a better barber. Properly cut hair will stay sharp on its own.

Not a chance.

Without proper product in my hair, it is a giant poof by the time it dries. And I've gone to some of the most renound barbers and stylists in NYC. Besides, the hair care product industry isn't the size it is simply because the mass of hair care professionals are incompetent.

OP, try bumble and bumble products. They are pricey, but well made, relatively light (depending on which you pick) and they have something for every type of hair.

OP, try Hero products.

I dated a hairdresser for years and one of the things she used to tell me was that good manageable hair starts with shampoo, then conditioner then gel, mouse or finishing cream.

HERO is great stuff

Mine too. Super thick. Very wavy.

My bald friends constantly make comments. But to me, I would actually like it if it thinned out just a bit.

I suppose the grass is always greener.

I just use leave in conditioner. I'd rather save the money for watches.

Ha. I have not posted this much in well over a week. But this subject is near and dear to my heart.

I use leave in conditioner, a grooming cream, and then a light gel. That is literally the only combination, after years of experimenting, that creates any sense of control.

Same, I use Davinies Medium gum- straightens the hair out and keeps it in place.

The prices have gone up and the quantities have gone down, so it's becoming harder to recommend, but it is good stuff!

I use KMS California Hair Stay styling gel. Gallon bottle will run you $50 in the US, and will last for a couple of years (unless you want to "sweat" gel.....ha ha).

So if I'm reading correctly, you want a matte finish styling product with high hold.
I have spent years looking for ones that work with semi thick and straight asian hair.

Here is what I recommend:

Baxter of California : Clay Pomade
This one is pricey for the size, but works really well. Harder to wash our, one of the main ingredients is Bee's wax, so it makes it harder to shampoo out, but not impossible.
https://www.amazon.com/Baxter-Califo.../dp/B000MIKEZQ

Layrite Hair Clay, Cement:
This is what I mainly use. Strong, matte finish, and less expensive for more product. Washes out easy.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Note that both of these will leave some residue on your brush, its just the nature of strong hold products. If it's strong enough to stick to your hair and hold it up all day, its strong enough to adhere to the comb.

Both of these allow you to move your hair around and neither look greasy or dry hard.

Price is right on Amazon too. About $12???

I don't have a lot of hair and what I have is thin. I keep it buzzed pretty short but let it grow longer from time to time.

I have always used Keils products as they have a display at Saks and I can use my Saks points to pay.

$12 sounds about right! I find that people with thicker hair tend to like it more as a heads up. Not sure if it's great for thin hair but at that price point it's probably worth a try.
