No, McLaren's 'biggest problem' is their massive depreciation. That has not been solved yet

Maybe that's all modern cars' problem, some are better than others but still a big problem for all.
Cheers.

I'm aware--but McLaren is on a different level. Trust me.

Well unless you're lucky enough to own an F1

Imagine all the angry people who passed on that car. I recall Leno saying he was going back and forth about buying his because the price was so high. In the end he caved of course. Now it's worth what...10x plus that

A friend lost $110k in one year on 650--ouch!

F1 yes, that's a different story.

If you can truly afford the car the depreciation doesn't matter.

If you put such a high % of your worth into a car that every day you are checking its worth like some kind of stock holding you are obviously not buying within your means.

It's a fun item not an investment.

Most friends I know that have the means and then some to buy exotics (myself included) don't like losing $100k. No one likes to lose $100k. It's simple. No one said anything about 'investments'.

Does anyone keep these cars? Or, are they mostly short term owners?

If you're not going to keep it forever the depreciation really matters. I don't care how rich you are, losing six figures on resale is painful.

Most Abdullah are short term owners...go look at most new exotics are under several thousand miles. Many just with a few hundred.

And you're right, no one likes to take in the shorts.

A dive buddy in Abu Dhabi got murdered selling his Bentley. He was depressed for weeks over it. He could afford 20 Bentley's, but taking that beating was a life lesson.

Cheers to this. Here's a perfect example of massive depreciation... on a car with less than 1700 miles.

Saw a couple 650's while staying st the Montage in Laguna. Also several Ferrari and a couple Lamborghini.

I loved the sound of the McLaren.

McLaren sound

It's a Turbo engine vs Naturally Aspirated on Ferrari (assuming not 488) and Lambo.

I do like the doors though :-)

When throwing around that kind of money for a fun item, no one, especially the ones that can afford it, whom, mostly are well seasoned business people, hate it the most. A good friend of mine took it in the teeth with a 650s last year. He drove it for one summer and lost 160 when trading it in for a ferrari. He was so pissed that he vowed never a Mac, no matter how the latest and greatest shows up next.

Too quiet and muffled, the turbos definetly take out the raw emotion of that car....the NA motors are where it's at, simply cannot be replicated by a turbo powered car.

Do you own an SL? I have always wanted one of those but it's not going to happen in my life time, When I was a teenager I worked at a private trap/skeet range in Southern Calif. Lots of movie stars from that era belonged and their cars were always a focal point. Clark Gable, Jackie Cooper and Roy Rogers all owned the mighty 300SL, I was hooked from then on.

This is why I won't sell my NA V8 Cayenne S model. The only choices are V6 turbos now.

Recently drove the Macan S for a few days and a Cayenne V6 for about a week. Underwhelmed by both.

NA V8 or bust! As long as my Cayenne S looks new, and stays rust free, I'll pay extra for engine maintenance to keep it running like new.

Hauls a** and makes engine noises more than muffler noises.

It remains one of my lifelong fantasies that everyone who violates a traffic law be issued a citation, every time, with exponentially increasing penalties.

675 seems to be holding up pretty well in the UK and some other markets ...perhaps less so in the US?

I wish I was fortunate enough to own one of those classics, the closest thing to one of those is my 2011 Mercedes SLS, the one in my avatar. The 300SL is a work of art, a car that was way way ahead of its time.

I also have a cayenne S with the NA V8, with 120k on it, and I cannot find many better sounding "non-exotic" cars out there. Mine SCREEEAMS in the 5-7k rpm range. I abuse it as my daily and am trying to get 200k Miles out of it.... the new ones do NOTHING for me

Nothing to be ashamed of there as that's an awesome car.

I prefer my Aston sound over anything
From Ferrari or McLaren. The Audi / Lambo v10 also awesome. Appreciate my Aston is nowhere near as quick.

Astons probably the nicest sound of all imho. Where I'm based in Pomgolia, am just around the corner from a A-M dealer so see a lot of 'em around
