Beautiful examples of the vintage Datejusts. I love that 'Buckley' one with the roman numerals painted in black. For some reason I love the black hands matching the numerals.

The Vintage Datejust is a Classic. Not too big, not too small, understated and beautiful. Recently I was in Salzburg and visted a watch shop which had the new sports sized DJ on display. It was big, badly proportioned and all fluted bezel. Didnt do it for me a all.

I simply love this one - it's pure simplicity - and it looks great with a suit.
Hi KDA;
I love your 16000, it is a rare vintage datejust!!

Just got this one back from being serviced, my 1974 1601. Despite not a huge fan of the Datejust, this one is one of my favourites. Really like the 1950's ones too. Just need to find a nice strap now.

I bought my first Rolex today, and it is a Datejust. :-) I wanted something that was understated and elegant, and I do like the way it sits on my arm. It was a bit of a spur of the moment buy though as I stumbled over it in a shop by accident (not literally).

Did I do OK for my money or should I have done a bit more research before buying? I paid a littly shy of 1100 punds.

If anyone would be so kind as to tell me a little about it, I would be most grateful!

Serial #: 328XXX

Best regards

Jens

No, I am afraid not.

Is there any way of telling if it is a 1601 or a 1603?

yes you can, you'll need to take off the bracelet and look between the lugs, the ref and serial should be there.

I just purchased this last week and it has really grown on me as a daily watch. I have always worn Submariners, so the smaller size took some getting used to.

The case is stamped 1601 and based on the Serial of 1,3xx,xxx, I believe it is from 1966.

Was the 1601 available with the riveted oyster bracelet from the factory?

The dial has spec's/chips on it from erosion or wear I assume.

Hi Lexi!! I love these three DJ of your too! What a nice dial they got!
How do collectors call this type of dial?
Never had the oppotunity of watching one of these on my hands. Look very handsome indeed!

Enjoy your DJ in good health!
Cordial regards, Abel.

Gorgeous pictures in this most interesting thread.
DJ are usually forgotten among collectors, and this is a shame as it is a great watch, offering thousands of variants of references, dials, and configurations, to assemble a very interesting collection of them.

I have presented my last discovery of a little time ago, in this thread:
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=194795

I cordially invite to give a look at this oldie!
Thank you for your attention, and kind regards, Abel.
