I own a consulting company that specializes in Healthcare integration. We're the guys that populate your EMRs and other hospital information systems with data.
So...we're the guys you all hate I remember a couple years ago I was told to not wear my badge if I ever have to get service from the hospital I was working at. I took that as a challenge so one even when not feeling particularly well, I wore it and was asked what I did. Well...I don't remember if they ever addressed my problem, but I walked out of there with a laundry list of problems they have with the system they were using. |

Prior to beginning my medical school studies, I was an aspiring cardiothoracic surgeon. While in college, I was afforded the opportunity to complete a summer surgery research program under Dr. Denton Cooley & Dr. O. Howard Frazier at Texas Heart Institute in Houston. While it was a remarkable experience, I learned two things about myself: it furthered my interest in medicine; I realized I was not meant to become a surgeon. After completing general internal medicine residency, I later transitioned from clinical medicine to administration and now serve as an Associate Director of Admissions at a medical school on the west coast.
As an aside: I asked Dr. Cooley to personally sign my cardiac surgery literature collection. My centerpiece is an original 1968 Life Magazine signed by Dr. Cooley, featuring him performing the first heart transplant in the United States which took place at Texas Heart Institute in Houston. Enjoy the photos. |
