It is the angle. 6 min isn't much, you are talking 1/4 of one tick - but I get what you are saying. It's not that precise using the 24 hand due to the spacing issues. One thing I have noticed on these is the 12 and 24 on the bezel sometimes aren't perfectly centered. Mine looks off here (again because of the angle) even though it is centered . It's something I look for when buying them.

This one doesn't get as much wrist time as my GMT's or Subs...but I love her just the same!

Well, I beg to differ... The angle, from right to left, is almost centered, which is what matters in this case because we're talking about the GMT hand pointing at the 6. The only angle I notice is that the watch is tilted back, again not a factor here.

If it doesn't bother you, then cool. But it's obviously way off.

If I could only have one watch I might pick a white 16570. The fact that they can also be had for $4k makes it a must have imho. I wouldn't be surprised if you see a significant price appreciation in the next few years.

The 16570 is the Rodney Dangerfield of the Rolex sports models. It's pretty much the GMT Master II without the rotating bezel at pretty much a 100% discount right now on the secondary market.

Until something crazy happens in the watch collecting world, it will continue to do it's best as the most low key undercover Rolex sports model out there.

My favorite Explorer is the 16550, but I found a good 16570 and I'm totally happy with it. I love that I have this cool understated watch on my wrist and no one notices it. My Seiko actually gets all the attention and compliments.

My polar 16570 is the most comfortable watch I own and the black hands against the white dial is the easiest to read with a quick glance from my aging eyes. It gets about 80% of my wrist time.

Although I've never owned one I've always admired the polar exp ii. It does seem to be less popular than say a Sub or DJ but all other Rolex models would be when comparing to those.

I've got a DJ, SubC and Polar- Polar wins hands down as best all round watch- gets 90% wrist time. 42 wears smaller on my wrist than the Sub at 40, too. Great watch.

The Explorer II is an interesting piece. While it has all the classic hallmarks of a Rolex sports watch, it isn't as readily identifiable as say the Submariner or the GMT-Master II. I think the older Explorer II references are similar to the 5 digit GMT-Master IIs but the newer model is a merging of both vintage and modern. Personally, I think this was a wise move on Rolex's part as it gave the watch its own identity from the 116710. I own both and find that the 216570 contrasts perfectly with the more refined, polished GMT-Master II. To that end, however, the Explorer II is less versatile as I consider it the most "sport" of all the Rolex models. The reference also fits a nice 42mm niche size in the predominantly 40mm Rolex Oyster lineup.

The result of all of this is that the Explorer II has, forgive the pun, become polarizing. Either your drawn to the contrast or you prefer the more classic lines of the 5 liner. Either way both are outstanding references and are overlooked in favor of the Sub or GMT.

Interesting. I always thought the Explorer II was in fact a popular watch, including on this site and especially the Polar.

My Polar doesnt get the wrist time of many of my others but I'm glad I have it - my only white faced dial in my collection

The Exp II is a beautiful, unique, robust watch that beckons to be taken on an adventure. Rolex builds watches that fit people's needs, if Explorers are not as popular as Subs I would suspect it has more to do with people preferring a watch that looks just as good at a wedding as it does at a BBQ. The Explorer II is a heavy duty timepiece that is at home on the summit and somewhat cumbersome at a black tie event. IMHO

It is true. Explorer 2 is a Rolex less popular than Sub and DJ. You don't see many of them and ppl, in general, don't know it is a Rolex.
Many if us like this, many don't. I had the watch for a while now, I haven't had anyone recognize the watch. I'm happy with that.

Also, Explorer 2 is a perfect sport watch. It doesn't really go with smart clothes. Because of that it is less popular as many like a watch to go with everything, especially if they are only one watch person.

My only problem is the crown appears too small for the watch on the 42mm. I think it should have a trip-lock crown like the subs and ym's. The polar white dial with orange hand rocks.

My black 16570 was my first Rolex. Will give it to my son once he is of age.

The crown is way shorter than that on a Sub c but it doesn't ever dig into your wrist on a cold day either so it's "horses for courses." I think that if I had to have one only Rolex forever then my 216570 Polar would be it. It's just comfortable. And beautiful. Love the Explorer II !

I think it is one of the best Rolexes in the line up: classic, not too overbearing, tough, and low key enough you can wear in some dodgy places and not worry about being targeted for robbery while you wear it. In the event you do lose it, you can easily replace it.

classic.

I'm not sure that 'generous discount' applies, depending on what this actually means.
The 216570 seems to be more popular than the 16570 (something that ADs I've spoken with have attested to). I would prefer to have a Triplock crown, but otherwise it is a great reference.

Why do you guys need a triplock on the Explorer?
Planning to dive more than 100m?

It looks better imho, and is a bit easier to use.

Could argue the same regarding the GMT and Daytona.
