Thoughts on this 94010
Just picked it up last week. Took me over a year to obtain. Got bent over a barrel but i like her. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Unmolested case....papers...but i need a box....any ideas? Original plastic crystal? If so which one is it?

Comes on a 9315 with 389 ends. The watch is from 76-77 but the clasp is not dated. I recall a post whereby it was stated that rolex did not date stamp their bracelets in the mid 70s....is that correct?

Hey there. The dial and midcase look ok to me.
I don't like the caseback. The engraving is not right. I also don't like 9315 stamping on the band. I just bought a 9411 from 76 and it has a 9315 as well. The watch is in rough shape. The blade has an A code date stamp. Be careful. |

the caseback is probably okay - the reason why it doesn't look right for Harry is probably due to the fact that its been over polished and its eaten into the text now. It might have been engraved at some point.

Papers with no dealer or date are a red flag for me.

I think the caseback is probably OK - would want clear - straight on photos to tell for sure.
Bracelet is from right around when they switched to date codes so not a deal breaker. I would want to do more looking on the bracelet stamps. Not as nice as your first one ;) - which is dreamy ;) - and no you cannot have my hands.

Post another of the back. I just find the engraving light. Almost etched. The crown also creeps over into the flat plane. The G in Geneva has a different font than I am accustomed to. The dial is nice.

like i said, the caseback is overpolished hence why its the brushed area has eaten into the engraving

Gina, it's a very nice watch. The back is still odd to me but looks better in the last Set of pics.

Agree the CB looks reduced in depth but several other things look correct on engravings. I don't have a 76/77 to compare but fonts are just a tick different than my late 79. Crown is different too but there are 2 styles (at least) of crown engravings. Would be best to find some other examples in that serial range to compare.

thank you....the seller knew it as well....hence the barrel bending. However, i do not see many with the really nice patina and unpolished to boot. Not to even mention the punched papers....that was the cherry on the sunday.

I agree on the case back. It appears the cute was re-brushed, maybe to get rid of a personalized engraving. The coronet is a bit wonky but otherwise the letter forms look like mine. I have an 889xxx serial so close to yours. 1977 would be a B or VB bracelet code and 1978 would be C or VC. I don't like the 9315 stamping on the last link either. However, I do not know of any fake 9315's either. Maybe those are newer Links added to an older clasp...
The no date bracelets were earlier- 72-74 time frame I believe. I think 9315's and for sure 93150's from this window do not have a date code. I know because I'm searching for one and they are hard to find! Enjoy that blue beauty! |

Zapokee is too kind.
I don't think this caseback has been refinished to remove an engraving. This isn't the first 76-77 to have this off center stamping (heck even the pics of the MN watches are consistent the same way). I just honestly think they were stamped slightly off at the factory. The font and even crown have changed numerous times in examples I've seen (including the actual thickness of the flat surface on a caseback). Check out these examples I've used to own: 1982 9401 This 9411 was from 78 IIRC: This one was from 1973. As you can see, caseback thickness of the flat surface is different in each and each have a different rolex crown and while the font is the same, the height of the actual letters are different. To be honest I couldn't tell you anything about the boxes. I've invested my time in learning about the watches not the packaging.
