You have to be careful with "COMEX" watches as they're heavily faked. Does it have the helium escape valve? Is there any documentation or believable oral history that would verify its authenticity? Do you know the seller? What's the serial number?
Regarding price, these References without the Comex dial printing are quite rare and therefore it's difficult to gather enough useful information to serve as comparables. That said, my recollection of private sales prices is more in the $25K-$30K range. But please take this with a grain of salt, as I'm sure others with perhaps more current data will chime in.

The watch looks good.
Serial, ref and inner caseback inspection are mandatory, but, as far as I see, if the watch is in the 4.0xx.xxx is 100% good and born with a no logo dial.
price is very good imho, low...to be honest.
Ciao,
Chris

Watch is an authentic Rolex-Comex Submariner, but the price might explain why the watch has been sale for two years.

However, soon $40k might seem quite reasonable...

The right price? Perhaps, for the right collector. Personally I'd prefer to spend "only" about $10K and get an identical-looking 5513, maybe even nicer. You're basically paying about $30K for a caseback engraving you'll never see on the wrist. If I ever wanted a Comex of any variety, I'd need "Comex" printed on the dial for the massive premium you pay for it. Good luck either way.

if you buy a Comex for the logo on the dial, you can surely buy a 5513 feet first. agree with you.
