Rolex Daytona 116520 SS Black or White
Trying to decide between two pre-owned Daytona's.
Option 1 2010 - Black Dial Options 2 2002 - White Dial Both in Mint condition and seller is asking $12K each with Box and Papers. I'm leaning white due to the fact that most of the other watches I have or want next have black dials. Just not sure which one is the better deal for $12K. This is my first Daytona. I also may just wait until I can get my hands on the new ceramic dial version when it becomes available to me. What is everyone's opinion on the the 116520 now that the 116520LN is on the market? |

A white 2002 even after service is too high. 116520 prices are volatile, there are other watches to be had.

Not an expert, but I have been looking around. 12k seems a bit much for a '02 model unless it was just recently serviced. You may as well spend an extra 1.5k on an NOS model if you figure in the service fees.

I vote for white. Please check with some of the trusted sellers here for pre-owned. And if you spend a bit more, you may be able to get a NOS just as hitman23 indicated.

I've got a lovely white one for sale here in the classifieds for $10,250 that a smart negotiator could probably get for even less... :)

Personally, I like the white dial on the 116520, but prefer the black dial on the new 116500. I also agree that at $12K, I'd be looking for NOS or at least a more recent specimen. Good luck!

I will sell you my white dial 2004 for $12k
That would be $2500 profit in two months. My vote is white and you can do much better on the price. |

Thanks for all responses and info.
They've both been recently serviced and are being sold by an authorized dealer. I'm also leaning toward a white one because I anticipate eventually purchasing a vintage model with a black dial such as a Sub. My other option is holding off on the Daytona for now and getting the new ceramic one when it's available and going with something like a no-date Sub or GMT II for now. Here's a pic of both the Daytona's on my wrist as well as the Sub. Feedback is welcome and greatly appreciated! |

Don't buy the 02 model. Too expensive. Get a ceramic one.

I prefer White however; 2010 will be more appealing to me than 2002.

All these on here saying 12k is to high haven't shopped these watches used lately. Good luck finding one with papers and a box in mint for under 12k. Condition, box/papers and trusted seller play a role in price. IMHO

I have no opinion on the two pieces in question, I own a white dial as I found it to be more easily readable.

I agree 12k isn't a "rip-off", but maybe just a tiny bit steep...id be more comfortable finding one at a 10.5-11k range. They're definitely out there to be found. Happy hunting OP

To the OP, buy the one that sings to you....it's difficult but there should be 1 that clearly stands out....sounds like white is it.....due to it being from 2002 though....I'd imagine there should be more room for negotiation unless it's a super safe queen of some kind. Good luck. |
