Yes, a BNIB from a trusted seller will have your name on the warranty card. Mine does.

Yes. And Bumble.

My Frist Rolex, and why I went with an AD.

Excellent and well thought out post.

I flip watches too often to go the AD route. The only reference I'll never flip is the 14060m, which was no longer available at AD's when I decided to get it.

Congrats!

The biggest take away is gaining a "feel" for your likes and tastes before making a purchase Sometimes this happens while touching watches in person, other times by studying pictures for months, or even by wearing various watches through flipping. Personally, I'd never be able to justify spending hundreds to thousands of dollars more because I talked watches by a sales person. There just way too many reputable sellers online who can deliver the watch with your name on the warranty (if purchased new), or get you a mint LNIB example saving even more.

No argument against saving money. For me, because I'm a salesman and earn my living off my service, I wanted to reward someone who gave me the same service I would've given a client to earn the deal. I am sure as I spend more time and perhaps develop a professional relationship with the dealers here, buying my next piece from TRF is entirely possible. If fact, I look forward to it.

I don't get the euphemism. Why call a grey market dealer a trusted seller...???

I agree with going to an AD. I did the same when I bought my Tudor Black Bay/Red and my wife's Rolex. I wanted to see, feel and touch the watch before I bought it. I also wanted my name on the warranty card and the ability to march right back to the same store if there were any immediate issues with the watch. Congrats on a great timepiece.

Many congratulations on your new purchase

Very interesting post for me especially as I too have just recently purchased my very first Rolex which just happens to be a Sub Date C exactly the same as yours.

I chose the AD route for pretty much the same reasons as you too.

For me it was as much about the experience of the AD as it was about actually purchasing the watch itself if that makes any sense?

I did look very closely at both options (AD v Online) and did actually contact a forum member who had his own watch up for sale here on TRF.

Unfortunately that sale didn't go through, but after that I decided I actually wanted that red carpet treatment, that little bit of 'made to feel special' even if it was only for a brief couple of hours.

You may say I've paid a premium for it - but actually have I?

Marginally yes, but the used values of the Sub Date C (here in the UK at least) are only a few hundred pounds under the list price for a new watch - even the ones up to 4 or 5 years old.

Also, if there was ever an issue with the watch (fingers crossed there wont be) but if there ever was, at least I have somewhere to go back to.

Purchasing from an online seller, trusted or not, who may even be on the other side of the world, may be more problematic.

Accepted, the international warrantee is just that, International, but I know an Ad isn't going to give me the same level attention if I am just a random joe walking in with a broken watch under my arm that's got some equally random sellers I.D stamped on the card.

Anyway, sorry to waffle on, congratulations once again on your beautiful new purchase and I hope you enjoy it for many years to come as I'm sure I will with mine
