First, a brief background. I'm thoroughly enjoying researching my first Rolex purchase, though it's very likely several months to a year away. I'm looking hard at a white dial Milgauss and the polar Explorer II. I have little to no realistic need for a 24 hour hand or additional antimagnetic properties, so I'm going strictly on looks. I'm leaning toward the Milgauss (I have not been able to try on the Exp II yet), but I'm concerned about the PCLs because I'm a little OCD.

My question is, do you feel different about scratches and wear on a sport watch versus a more dressy watch? I admit a beat up Sub or Explorer that received its scars during adventure seems more appealing than a Milgauss that I'll bump into office chairs, keyboards and doorframes?

I am not sure that people "like" scratches.

Most of us accept that it is a fact of wearing a piece of jewelry that it will get scratched.

First scratches are hard, but once you get a light patina of scratches all over, Rolexes start to look AWESOME...

Some say it adds 'character' but the truth is I don't like scratches. I don't freak out but I do my best to avoid without extreme measures.

I think that probably sums up my feelings best. I just need to realize that scratches will happen and learn to live with, if not embrace them.
